Amplid LoBro - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Mikee C - (0) comments.

A new release for the 2012/13 winter, the Amplid LoBro fits into the Burton Process and Nitro Team Gullwing pigeon hole. The LoBro has a twin shape, blunted to keep weight out of the tips for easier spinning and Amplid Hybrid V profile to aid float in deep snow and soften up the waist for easy presses and effortless ollies. To keep the complex die cut base in good condition the LoBro features Amplid’s very own Abuse Base Technology, a metal gauze under the base, designed to eradicated hotspots generated by friction from sliding rails and boxes.

Rossignol Krypto MagTek - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

For those that aren’t mountaineering in Chamonix or Verbier to reach savage lines, the Rossignol Krypto makes a lot more sense than its steroid pumped sibling the Experience. Still stiff, damp and dependable in all snow conditions and terrain, if the Experience wasn’t on the throne as the ultimate freeride snowboard, the Krypto would be. If your lines are a little tamer than Xavier De Le Rue’s, save yourself a few bucks and opt for the Krypto, you won’t regret it.

Experience reviewed by the Snowboard Review team. Experience is a video review.
Rossignol Experience - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

The Rossignol Experience Magtek is a brutal bully of a snowboard. Wickedly stiff between the bindings with fierce seven bump Magne-Traction edges, the Experience grips through turns like it’s running on train tracks. The Torsion Box construction and heavy duty reinforcement along its length means sketchy snow conditions and big drops are eaten-up with little feedback but the early rise tips which start a little outside the bindings keep the Experience’s floaty and agility in deep snow. The fact that the Experience is Xavier De Le Rue’s board of choice gives a good indication of what kind of rider is going to enjoy riding it. SB-RV recommends the Rossignol Experience to expert freeriders who ride the steepest terrain on the gnarliest mountains… anything less and all you need is the Krypto Magtek.

Ride Berzerker - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

The Berzerker has been designed by Ride’s backcountry slayer Jake Blauvert. If you’re looking for a board that will allow you to ride the steepest and deepest terrain out there but give you the confidence to stomp switch bs 7’s off a 15 meter cornice then definitely take a closer look at the Berzerker. If none of the previous sentence made any sense to you and the only thing you’ll be throwing off a cornice that big is a snowball, then don’t worry you’re in good company. In short, Berzerker has been designed to give snowboarders the flexibility to throw tricks all over the mountain and ride every type of terrain the mountain has offer. A softer, more-pronounced rocker in the nose and slightly set-back stance mean that this board floats beautifully in powder. Camber underneath the feet, hybrid glass and Pop Rods 2.0 mean that the Berzerker can still rail a carve when you need it to.

Ride Machete GT - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Tom Ewbank - (0) comments.

The Machete GT has the same shape as its brother the Machete but that’s where the similarities end. The Machete GT is the board that the Machete would be if it went to the gym 5 nights a week and took performance-enhancing drugs. Added carbon reinforcements in the sidewalls and throughout the board with a profile which uses camber between the feet make this a board for those riders who like to send-it off big features in the park, boost out of the pipe, and carve-up icy pistes at Mach 5. Nevertheless, Ride claim that the Machete GT’s Hybrid LowRize profile still gives this board a playful surfy-feel in powder and slush.

The Highlife UL is a serious snowboard for hard-charging snowboarders. If you’re looking for a board that is equally at home on steep and deep backcountry faces as it is on icy pistes then this could definitely make your snowboard shortlist. More carbon reinforcements than a Formula 1 car and Ride’s new Hybrid All-Mountain rocker, which has a large camber section, mean that this board is powerful and poppy through turns and will definitely grip the snow. The Highlife UL also has a rockered nose and lightweight construction for added float in the pow.

Want a snowboard that is so menacing that you’ll have to keep it locked in a shed at the end of the garden? Well, your search is at an end. Capita have been making the BSOD since the company started 12 years ago and although it’s changed a lot in that time it’s still aimed at the same kind of rider. Parkitect reviewed by the Snowboard Review team. Parkitect is a video review.
Burton Parkitect - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Tom Ewbank - (1) comments.

Burton have embraced some fairly ‘off the wall’ technology by building the Parkitect. This deck is by no means your average snowboard but then again Jeremy Jones isn’t your average rider and if anybody has the experience and knowledge to build a killer board it’s got to be JJ the OG. The main feature of the Parkitect is the Off-Axis Squeezebox. This is Squeezebox technology that thins directly under the riders foot but at a freestyle stance of +/- 15 degrees. As a consequence you’re left with an asymetric core. Make sense? Don’t worry! In essence you’re left with a board that has a specific heal edge and toe edge and means manouverability, edge hold and pop are all improved. It must work because Transworld gave it a coverted Good Wood Award.

Burton market the Custom X as a mysterious, caged beast that is untamable by the average man…..this isn’t the case. Sure you have to be a reasonably experienced rider that knows how to carve a board to make the most of the Custom X, but as long as you’re looking for a fast and explosive board, and not a board for jibbing, then you definitely won’t be disappointed. The Custom X is a powerful board; responsive edge to edge, lightening fast and poppy when loaded.

Endeavor High5 Series - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

As with the last three seasons this year’s Endeavor High5 Series gets high caliber artwork from one of Snowboard-Review’s favourite artists Mr Derek Stenning. Strip back the killer graphics and underneath is a highly tuned monster V8 of a snowboard. Not just cambered but Super Cambered (yep that’s 1.5cms of camber) with Basalt fiberglass and more Carbon than a Chinese coal-fired power station the High5 is built for pop. The longer effective edge, created by introducing flat kicks, will please those that like to dig trenches in corduroy, hit huge tabletops and take more speed than anyone else into ice pipe transitions. This is a board for expert riders only who want a snowboard that delivers on firm to hard snow condition.

Parkstar reviewed by the Snowboard Review team. Parkstar is a video review.
K2 Parkstar - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

K2 knows how to build a reverse camber with pop, their technique? Cram loads of carbon into the construction and when you think you have enough add a little bit more. All said and done this method seems to work wonders, the K2 Parkstar might not be as buttery soft as it used to be but for all-terrain and park freestyle riding it ticks all the correct boxes. From beginner to expert if you want to ride a twin shaped stick in park, pow, piste and pipe you can’t really go wrong with the Parkstar. More aggressive riders might find the K2 Parkstar’s softer torsional flex lacks the grip and response that they are after, our test Rob certainly found that to be its Achilles heel.

K2 Ultra Dream - 2013Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

The Turbo Dream has mutated into a backcountry specialist in K2’s latest release the Ultra Dream. Although the Ultra Dream works well for all-mountain shredding and the occasional park and pipe session, the extra surface area in the nose and tail isn’t ideal for technical jib tricks and kicker spins. Snowboard-Review would recommend the K2 Ultra Dream to accomplished riders who ride out-of-bounds features like they’re park transitions, catching air and popping into switch.

Torstein Horgmo and Aaron Bittner moved onto the PLY this season which is a strong omen that it is a freestyle performer. Crammed full of features like Lock and Load camber which blends flat sections into a traditional camber profile and DC’s almost twin Skate shape at a price that will have die hard freestylers pinching themselves, the PLY is an absolute bargain. Amplid Paradigma - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

Last February was my first chance to ride a Paradigma. I’d heard that it was a pretty firm and lightweight snowboard for charging groomers and hitting big transitions. Getting on the Paradigma I experienced all those characteristics, but it also felt really manageable and even though I was riding a 159, it felt lightweight and agile. It popped nicely into switch, buttered and felt effortless in the air. As far as all-mountain snowboards go the Paradigma really covers the spectrum of what you’re likely to encounter on the mountain. Amplid call the Paradigma their Swiss Army Knife… it’s a pretty good analogy.

The UNW8 is the Paradigma’s genetically superior twin. Whereas the Paradigma is the snowboard that nearly everybody will get along with because of its good nature and fun character the UNW8 is aggressive, lean and snappy. It seems there aren’t many boards built like the Amplid HiDef these days. Amplid Dopamine - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

The Dopamine is Amplid’s number one selling board which doesn’t surprise the Snowboard-Review.com team one little bit. It’s fun and buttery whilst maintaining a good degree of resistance in the nose and tail for stability in carves and when charging out of bounds. The flex pattern is verging on perfect for a jib board with a poppy nose and tail and more flex coming from between the bindings for big ollies and presses that make you feel like you’re on a cambered board like the Rome Artifact without the catchiness. On top of that the Dopamine looks the bomb and the super slippery and tough as old boots Extruded 4.4K Duraspeed base will keep it that way.

Ride Buckwild - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Aly Mac - (0) comments.

With the DH2 moving to a Hybrid profile this year there was a space for a new board with ProRize rocker, the Buckwild has filled the gap admirably. With a flat profile through most of the board and early rise tips the Prorize give plenty of stability and on edge performance whilst remaining playful for park and urban jib missions. Salomon Man’s Board - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

If it’s the unique beer inspired graphics that draw you to the Salomon Man’s Board it is the incredible performance that will make you a happy customer. Despite having Cork and Bamboo sidewalls the Man’s board is built like a brick shit house and the sturdiness doesn’t stop with the construction, the flex is really firm meaning smaller riders will either need to get down to the gym or get drinking Guinness and eating pies before the season starts. Power is the name of the game with the Man’s Board it takes some effort to ride it but the reward is that for all-mountain riders there aren’t many directional twins that ride as hard and fast on sketchy snow and steep bumpy terrain with such smoothness. Man up and buy one… but if you’re a good rider; this board is not for anyone who isn’t advanced or expert.

Skinny pant wearing, knock kneed rail killer Jed Anderson dominates the urban handrail and jib scene on the Salomonder. The Salomonder’s fundamentals are sound; it has a soft flex and zero camber profile for easy presses and maximum board on rail contact. Durability is another important consideration, with rubber dampening placed under the edges to help minimise dreaded edge cracks and the No Chip Tips cutting down the risk of de-lams, the odds are this would be the only snowboard to survive a nuclear explosion… or Jed’s riding.

Endeavor High5 Series - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

If we were judging snowboard on their graphics, the High5 would be a winner again, for the third year in a row. Computer games concept artist Derek Stenning killed the High5 graphics last year with the iconic Cosmonauts series and this year his Military Patches themed work is equally exciting… somebody please buy the man a beer! Besides its stunning exterior the High5 packs a lot of features and top level performance between its base and topsheet. Conventional triaxial fibreglass has been replaced with Basalt fibres, changing the feel of the board and reducing the weight. The flat kicks allow Endeavor to increase the effective edge of the High5 by a couple of centimetres, giving you the opportunity size down a couple of centimetres on your usual board size without losing edge hold. The Rome Mod Rocker is one of those boards that the masses have been waiting on for years. It’s not that the cambered Mod needs rocker it’s just that riders wanted the high spec performance of the cambered mod with the playfulness of reverse camber. If that was the mission statement then Rome has surpassed itself. The Freepop Rocker is stable but playful featuring a flat area that runs from 5cm before the leading foot’s first pair of inserts to 5cm past the last set of inserts, this flat section is designed to give a stable level platform. In the tips are Carbon hotrods, which are milled into the core giving the Mod Rocker plenty of pop, but the tips remain buttery and easily pressed. It kicked out of turns like a Jackass on steroids and the grip on the slickest of hardback was mind blowing. For the 2011/12 season little change has been made to the Custom X, however the change that has been made is significant. Last year the Custom X had a positive core profile which meant that a constant core thickness was maintain between the bindings giving the board immense torsional stiffness, essential for vice-like edge hold. YES Big City - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Mikee C - (1) comments.

Set back with a slightly directional shape, using multi-axial fibreglass and running on an 8000 grade sintered base, it’s hardly surprising that the YES Big City is more suited to riders who consider the whole mountain their playground, not just the terrain park. The Big City or BC for short is a medium to firm flexing snowboard ideal for riders who take their tricks to natural terrain.

Arbor Draft - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Mikee C - (0) comments.

The Arbor Draft is the weapon of choice for the new crowd of jibbers learning their buttery trade at Bear Mountain, Southern California. If you watch Nick Visconti and Scotty Vine destroy the jib line, you’ll know what this snowboard is capable of. The Robusto tips have been developed to limit the amount of damage you’ll cause with a head on rail ding.

Taipan reviewed by the Snowboard Review team. Taipan is a video review.
Rossignol Taipan - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Aly Mac - (1) comments.

Take the Angus, remove the Carbon and Kevlar reinforcement from the construction and save a few cents by trading the pricey 7500 sintered base for Rossi’s slick 4400 sintered base and you’ve got the Taipan. It’s a touch softer and ever so slightly slower but Transworld still reckon it’s worth a Good Wood award, and let’s face it the spec is still far more comprehensive than its price tag would suggest.

Rossignol Trickstick - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

For those who like their twin shaped jib boards soft as a sponge, it doesn’t get much softer than the Trickstick, think about it and you’ll be in a press. Where the Trickstick really kills the competition is the completely customisable Scratch-off topsheet and cool clip tips which can be cut down with hacksaw to create your ultimate jib shape.

Rossignol Jibsaw Magtek - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Tom Ewbank - (1) comments.

Welcome to a new world of freestyle performance. Everything about the new Jib Saw is top of the range, from the 7500 grade sintered base to the Carbon and Kevlar reinforced core. It’s Freestyle Amtek profile and Magne-Traction edges mean the Jib Saw will literally cut trenches into hard pistes and halfpipe walls, float agilely on deep powder and still tear apart the slopestyle course. For advanced freestylers this board really is as good as the graphics by London outfit Two Sick Bastards look.

Experience Magtek reviewed by the Snowboard Review team.
Rossignol Experience Magtek - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (0) comments.

The Rossignol Experience is the orginal camrock/amptek profile freeride powerhouse. The Experience has a stiff torsional and longitudinal flex as a result of its Carbon and Kevlar reinforcement Torsion Box construction, combined with Magne-Traction edges it grips mercilessly even on the sparsest snow covering but the rockered tips absorb small unexpected transitions and bumps and make the board surprisingly nimble, particularly in deep snow where the Experience rips. It’s been proved all over the world and it is heads and shoulders above most of the competition, watch Xavier De Le Rue’s part in the forthcoming Standard Films’ TB20 if you don’t believe me.

Rossignol One Magtek - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Tom Ewbank - (0) comments.

Three years ago if somebody told you that you could ride park, pipe, piste and poder on one snowboard you would have probably laughed in their face. Now it’s completely possible and the One Magtek is one of the best at it. The One is an all-mountain directional twin with Rossignol’s All-Mountain Amptek profile and Magne-Traction edges that literally works on any terrain you can throw it at.

Disaster reviewed by the Snowboard Review team.
Bataleon Disaster - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Mikee C - (1) comments.

Expect to see the Disaster’s distinctive Dollar graphics a lot next season, this board is going to sell like hot cakes with 50 dollar bills hidden within the tasty exterior. Jib specific TBT is new to the Bataleon line this season and maximises board on rail contact without compromising on the Bataleon catch-free feel. Bataleon’s Combat wood composite core is lively but damp making the Disaster a great board for urban rail rippers.

Hatchet reviewed by the Snowboard Review team. Hatchet is a video review.
Atomic Hatchet - 2012Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (1) comments.

The snowboard that successfully launched Atomic into the world into snowboarding has become an icon over the years. This year the Hatchet has lost the ugly blunted tips of last year’s model, they return to eye-pleasing radial tips. The base also gets upgraded to a 7200 Impact base which unfortunately isn’t on par with Atomic’s sintered varieties. With Pop Rocker profile and soft biaxial glass the Hatchet butters and jibs extremely easily, however heavier or aggressive riders may find the nose and tail to wishy-washy in hard carves and on sketch snow. The Hatchet would make a good all-rounder for inexperienced riders or a great jib board for experienced snowboarders.
