Ride Machete GT - 2013

/images/brands/ride/logo/ride_logo.gif

The Machete GT has the same shape as its brother the Machete but that’s where the similarities end. The Machete GT is the board that the Machete would be if it went to the gym 5 nights a week and took performance-enhancing drugs. Added carbon reinforcements in the sidewalls and throughout the board with a profile which uses camber between the feet make this a board for those riders who like to send-it off big features in the park, boost out of the pipe, and carve-up icy pistes at Mach 5. Nevertheless, Ride claim that the Machete GT’s Hybrid LowRize profile still gives this board a playful surfy-feel in powder and slush.

Manufacturer's Description:

The mountain is your playground on this aggressive, yet surfy twin snowboard built for hitting features and locking in landings. All mountain freestyle chargers will benefit from the new versatile Hybrid LowRize™ shape designed with the playful LowRize™ rocker in the tip and tail, and the responsive level micro-camber zone under foot. Taking this response a step further, we have graced the Machete GT snowboard with our all-new Popwalls™ that combines carbon and Slimewall® layers on the sidewall. By moving the carbon to the outside edge of the board we are maximizing the response, grip and stability, making this twin ideal for going big while maintaining an all around playful feel.

2013 Ride Machete GT Video Snowboard Review

The Machete GT is the beefed up version of the Machete. Having not ridden the Machete I can’t say how different it is but the GT is certainly a man’s board. I rode the 157 which is a little large for me for a twin shaped freestyle stick so it took a bit of getting used.

The Ride Machete GT is really stiff so you have to work for your jibs and presses (I needed a couple of stone more or the shorter version) but you can do them. This stiffness comes into it’s own when you are charging around the slopes. It is really stable at speed, you feel like you can commit 100% to every turn and off kickers you know you have a really solid landing platform. On bigger jumps and features this board is in its element.

The GT is clearly not a board for beginners, it’s suited to an all mountain freestyler is all about turning up the speed, going big and riding aggressively. There are better snowboards out there for committed park rats.

Highlights

Stable at speed
Pop and edge hold for big jumps

Letdowns

A difficult snowboard to Jib
Hard work to ride in general for less aggressive or lighter snowboarders
