The Skate Banana is the board that changed Lib Tech’s fortunes and placed them at the forefront of snowboard design. Having won countless awards and changing snowboard design forever the Skate Banana is undoubtedly a modern classic. The Skate Banana is the definition of an all-mountain jib stick; ridiculous fun all over the mountain in whatever conditions the weather throws at you, thanks to a Banana Tech profile and Magnetraction edges. Jib-kids and park-junkies that ride in icy conditions most of the time but want a softer board with the capacity to grip and hold an edge should take-note.

1986 Snow Mullett reviewed by the Snowboard Review team.
Lib Tech 1986 Snow Mullett - 2011 Snowboard reviewed by Rich Ewbank - (2) user review(s).

It’s a little known fact that everybody who works at Mervin Manufacturing has a Mullet hairstyle; legend has it that Mike Olson even built Lib Tech on the principles of ‘business at the front and party at the back’. Anyway, apart from a spruced-up design no changes have been made to the Snow Mullet for 2011. Lib Tech has once-again packed their Banana & Magnetraction features into a tapered board with a progressive sidecut for added stability when cruising at high speeds. The Magnetraction grips on any ice that a freeride snowboarder might encounter while the rocker profile provides superb float in all types of powder. A cult classic like the haircut? No, it’s way cooler!

Dark Series C2 Power BTX reviewed by the Snowboard Review team.
Lib Tech Dark Series C2 Power BTX - 2011 Snowboard reviewed by Tom Ewbank - (2) user review(s).

An aggressive all-mountain freestyle snowboard that loves the backcountry and carves through groomers like a hot knife through butter thanks to a narrow-ish waist, for lightening quick response edge-to-edge, and Magnetraction. The Dark Series is never happier than when it’s being ridden down a mountain at break-neck speeds or absorbing landings from big jumps, this stability is thanks to a firm but explosive flex which features Lib Tech’s C2 banana rocker hybrid profile.

Lib Tech Travis Rice C2 BTX - 2011 28 Lib Tech Travis Rice C2 BTX user review(s).

When Travis releases his new snowboard movie in September you’ll see exactly what this board is capable of, it’s an all-mountain killer that can literally be taken anywhere. When compared to the 2010 model the 2011 Travis Rice doesn’t appear to have had any changes made to it but must have been refined as it’s now the proud winner of a 2011 TransWorld Good Wood Award, not to mention some sick graphics inspired by the film ‘The Ring’.

Lib Tech Jamie Lynn Phoenix C2 BTX - 2011 0 Lib Tech Jamie Lynn Phoenix C2 BTX user review(s).

If you had a bit of a crush on the blue alien woman in Avataar then Jamie Lynn has designed the perfect pin-up board for you. Being a legend of the freestyle world, but living near Mt Baker and shredding some of the best powder in the world, Jamie has designed his board to ride powder and park with equal prowess. A slightly firmer flex from the Basalt reinforcements and the new C2 Power Banana profile means that this board has the strength to stick big landings, is powerful in carves and floats well in the deep stuff.

Lib Tech Phoenix Lando C2 BTX - 2011 0 Lib Tech Phoenix Lando C2 BTX user review(s).

For the second year running Mark Landvik, freestyle/freeride nut-job, has worked with Jamie Lynn to create is very own version of the Lib Tech Phoenix. This years Lando comes with a C2 Power Banana Tech profile and 3D Bamboo organic throttle pads under the binding inserts; so expect increased pop from the C2 profile and increased edge-to-edge response and playfulness from the Bamboo torsion pads.

Lib Tech Box Scratcher - 2011 0 Lib Tech Box Scratcher user review(s).

If you’re a fan of the Think Thank films then you’ll know that this board features quite heavily in their most recent offering. The Box Scratcher has been designed specifically for Jesse Burtner, jib-legend and Think Thank mastermind. In essence it’s a pure jib board; short with large stance options and a super soft flex. This year’s model comes with a 25.2cm waist on both lengths and a TNT Base to make run-ins less sketchy. Handrail and indoor riders welcome to your Nirvana, a snowboard purely to scratch the paint off boxes and multiple kinked handrails. Also, larger riders looking for a jib-specific deck to add to their quiver should definitely take it out for a test.

Lib Tech McKink - 2011 0 Lib Tech McKink user review(s).

Lib Tech haven’t made any changes to the McKink for 2011, even the design is the same; I guess if it ain’t broke why fix it?........Which is exactly why I’m not going to change the product description!

One of the softer boards in the Lib Tech range designed to be ridden all over the mountain, the Mc Kink hides the effective edge, contact surface area and sidecut radius of a board about 3-4cm longer, with the jib-ability of your usual park deck. Everyone’s a winner.

Lib Tech TRS_C2_BTX - 2011 3 Lib Tech TRS_C2_BTX user review(s).

The Lib-Tech TRS does exactly what it says on the label, it’s a total ripper. Lib-Tech designed the TRS for strong, aggressive riders looking for a board to kill the need for a quiver and give excellent performance all over the mountain. The TRS is fast, powerful, grippy and poppy but can still be buttered around the park and pressed on boxes and rails. This year the TRS comes with Lib-Tech’s C2 camber/rocker profile which has added a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the boards’ performance (also know as pop Tom) and earned Lib Tech another Good Wood award for the trophy cabinet.

Lib Tech Travis Rice C2 BTX Horse Power - 2011 3 Lib Tech Travis Rice C2 BTX Horse Power user review(s).

The Lib Tech Travis Rice HP is an environmentally-friendly version of this seasons Travis Rice pro model. Using Horsepower construction, a Columbian Gold core and 100% Basalt fibre reinforcement, Lib Tech have managed to create a similarly performing deck for the more environmentally conscious rider. It’s also got the longest name in the business.

Lib Tech Banana Magic BTX - 2011 0 Lib Tech Banana Magic BTX user review(s).

When Mike Olson, founder of Lib Tech, set-out to design his ultimate snowboard the Banana Magic is exactly what he envisaged. The Banana Magic is a high-end board that utilizes advanced environmentally-friendly production methods and materials but does not compromise on performance. This year’s graphics are a definite head-turner and with the Banana Magic you know that one of the most influential men in snowboard design has spent a serious amount of time on the boards R&D. This is one green banana that you won’t regret picking!

Lib Tech Cygnus X1 - 2011 1 Lib Tech Cygnus X1 user review(s).

Not much has changed to the Cygnus X1 this year, nevertheless it’s still light-years ahead of the competition; in fact it’s so futuristic that the technical specification has more acronyms than NASA. While we’re on the subject of ‘the future’ the guys and girls at Future Snowboard Magazine liked it so much they’ve awarded it a number of nice awards over the last couple of years, including best board over $600 in last years test. Space-age materials like Vectran, Magnesium Oxide and environmentally conscious biopolymers, combined with Magnetraction and Banana rocker between the feet mean that this board really is at the forefront of board design. The Cygnus X1 is a serious all-mountain ride for those wealthier snowboarders who want to buy an environmentally-friendly board but don’t want to compromise on performance…….this is not the Toyota Prius of the snowboard world.

Lib Tech Skunk Ape C2 BTX - 2011 1 Lib Tech Skunk Ape C2 BTX user review(s).

The Lib Skunk Apes is designed for those heavier, bigger-footed riders that want a freestyle orientated powder board which floats effortlessly despite having a centered stance and no taper in the tail. This board performs on groomers and in powder with equal ability thanks to the C2 Power Banana profile and Magnetraction edges, it can also be taken to the park.

Lib Tech Banana Hammock - 2011 0 Lib Tech Banana Hammock user review(s).

This board is for those lucky snowboarders who live in Japan or Tahoe and ride waste-deep powder every other day. The Banana Hammock is the ultimate second board and once your friends hear you own one they’ll all want a trial ride. If, like the vast majority of riders, you hardly ride powder then don’t even consider this board as it’s as much use as an underwater hairdryer in all other conditions. And yes that is a reverse sidecut you can see, the Banana Hammock works much like a wakeboard.
