Lib Tech Dark Series C2 Power BTX - 2011

/images/brands/libtech/logo/libtech_logo.gif

An aggressive all-mountain freestyle snowboard that loves the backcountry and carves through groomers like a hot knife through butter thanks to a narrow-ish waist, for lightening quick response edge-to-edge, and Magnetraction. The Dark Series is never happier than when it’s being ridden down a mountain at break-neck speeds or absorbing landings from big jumps, this stability is thanks to a firm but explosive flex which features Lib Tech’s C2 banana rocker hybrid profile.

Manufacturer's Description:

The Dark Series features one of Lib Tech’s most incredible freestyle constructions and geometries. Three dimensional bamboo org throttles transfer control out from your feet to your edges and up to your tip and tail through end-grain, longitudinal power transfer spines and internal sidewalls, creating the worlds first organic torsion box.. Incorporated into the organic torsion box are volcanic basalt fibres, a new ultra-light Colombian Gold farmed eco wood core and BEANS bio polymer top materials.  All this combined into an aggressive directional twin freestyle shape and banana/camber combo ‘C2 Banana Technology’ geometry. C2 offers the best of Banana and camber combined: pop and the end-to-end stability of camber; combined with the float, catch-free ease and incredible carving of Banana Tech (rocker) between your feet. The Dark Series’ Volcanic Organic Technormous Broknowlodgy is ridden and tested by Eric Jackson and Martin Cernik. And is the board-of-choice for Lib Tech experimental division’s Apostolos ‘Pos’ Karabotsos.

Lib Tech Dark Series C2 Power BTX

Snowboard Review:

The Dark Series is a serious snowboard, which you can tell by its rather expensive price-tag. Nevertheless you do get a lot of bang for your buck; Magnetraction edges, C2 Banana Rocker Profile and power plates for increased torsional strength and a slightly narrower board width under the feet.

I took the 155 for a spin on a spring day when a hard layer of frozen snow was covered by a 10cm layer of fresh heavy snow. Although I’d have preferred the Dark Series a few centimetres longer the 155 still dealt well with very bumpy conditions and felt very stable at high speed. The tale was very strong and took rock drops and kicker landings in its stride.

Perhaps the most impressive characteristic of the Dark Series was its power and acceleration when carving on the piste. Torsional and longitudinal strength combined with power plates, a fairly deep sidecut, magnetraction and a narrower waste means that this board is ridiculously responsive edge to edge. You can hold an edge on the iciest piste conditions and you can put some surprisingly short radius carve lines down the piste. The C2 Banana Rocker Profile seems to compliment all of the aforementioned board features and when you’re carving it really feels as though you’re riding a cambered board.

In the park the Dark Series was fairly stable off large jumps and was very useful in the pipe but wasn’t really forgiving-enough for jibbing around and hitting rails. Although this board is poppy and stable at high speeds the narrow width and torsional stiffness makes it a little unstable at low speeds and a bit sketchy on the approach to jibs. All-in-all the Dark Series is an unbelievable board for riding the piste aggressively and dabbling in the back-country. If you’re not really interested in the park and you love going fast and carving then get down to your local Lib Tech Demo centre and scare yourself stupid.

I got the 162cm one last season. I love high speed and back-country riding. After riding the board for couple of days I started changing my style and enjoying quick turns at high speed. I’ve never ridden a board that is so happy edge-to-edge. I started changing directions constantly while riding. I tried jumping and it was feeling great landing with the dark series. I am not much of a rails fan so I cannot comment there, but personally I love the Dark Series.
