What colour is powder?

Got to ride this board last season on a powder trip. It was a pre-production board and I really really liked it.

Didn’t really have a freeride board for the powder and got to use this board.

It just want to float by it self. Good control during treeruns and and very stable on long turns. Even out of the powder it was an amazing board to ride. Very stable on high speeds.

This one is definitely on my wish list for next season.

Just rode my new 2010 Atomic Banger 161 for the first time.  Steep tree runs with 6-10” of fresh powder.  This board handles very well for it’s length.  The Banger floats very nicely without having to lean too far back.  It is quite directional and my stance looks a little ridiculous with how far back it is set, but the board rides really nicely.  I am using Flux Premium bindings with toe caps and the board responds well on both heel and toe edges.  I am able to make tight turns in the trees to poach the untouched powder that others can’t reach.  I am 5’8” and 160 lbs and a size 9 boot, I ride big from 158 to 164, the Banger 161 feels like a shorter board for turn radius, but cruises and holds nice big turns at speed.  If you like to ride a big board in the pow, but want the turn radius of a smaller board for the trees, then the Banger is worth a look.

I’ve been riding this board all season on pow and through the trees.  This is my third board and by far the best due to its amazing control.  I can cut or stop on a dime, it floats effortlessly, and it looks great to top it off.  Paired with my Ride Double Agent bindings, this board is great for riders who like split-second control for aggressive tree lines or high speed groomer runs.

Some great reviews on here and on freeride boards for once. Keep up the good work in that direction.

Just to clear up some small details on the Atomic Banger, taper is only like 9mm,no more give or take 1mm. Also it is only setback 10mm, no more! Hope Rich and the others can edit those reviews, as its a good stick just bit different, not heavily tapered or setback though.. The catalogs Banger model specs were mixed up with the Poacher split specs for a few years running.

Thanks for the heads-up Reacon. I rode the the Banger about 12 months ago but I remember it having quite a heavy taper http://www.snowboard-review.com/blog/article/brand_test_-_2011_atomic_snowboards/ . It wasn’t far off my Rossi twilight and certainly felt and looked more than the Burton Supermodel and Salomon Burner which use around 10mm of taper. Then I looked on the website and in the stats it says 10mm of taper, but it also says they build a 171 which they don’t, the biggest it goes to is a 164. However, I’ve got the 2011 catalogue infront of me and it says for the record that it has infact 8mm of taper which even less, but it is set-back 25mm (1inch). Still it’s a fun board and the taper works nicely. More importantly Atomic should get their sh*t together, the factory is about 500m from my house I should go and have words… making me look a fool damn-it.
