GNU Altered Genetics - 2011

/images/brands/gnu/logo/gnu_logo.gif

The flagship board of the GNU range. The Altered Genetics features some seriously space-age materials; the bonkers engineers at Mervin have found a polymer material called Vectran, Vectran has a strength to weight ratio 10 times greater than Titanium, and they’re using it to reinforce the AG. But that’s not the end of it, new for 2011 the Altered Genetics uses C2 Banana technology, the crazy hybrid wood core that the Altered Genetics is famous for and Magnetraction… the Altered Genetics is next-level equipment.

Manufacturer's Description:

The GNU Altered Genetics C2BTX Banana Rocker Snowboard has a Banana Rocker unlike any rocker before its time. GNU Altered Genetics

Snowboard Review:

This board is siiiiiiiick! Proper badass mean machine. Packs more punch than Mike Tyson in court! Seriously solid and ate up every type of terrain on the day, from the hard packed morning piste to afternoon slush, as well as everything in the park. The Mag edges gave the Altered Genetics unbelievable grip and whilst everyone was taking it nice & easy on the rock hard slopes, this monster was in a league of its own, I was literally clamped to the snow with no fear of slipping out or catching an edge on the hard/icy patches. The flex was fairly stiff as you would probably expect from a top end freestyle board so you do have to work it quite hard when pressing & buttering. The Altered Genetics is definitely more dialed for pipe and kickers than it is jibs and rails.

So if you want to know what carving fast on ice feels like then look no further! This badboy is packed with goodness that makes you immediately feel super confident as soon as you strap in and drop in. I can’t rave highly enough about the Altered Genetics it really is killer board, to understand what I’m talking about you really should try it and see for yourself! It’s a must!

Hello,

I’m looking at getting a new board and heard the GNU and Lib Tech boards were good choices.

I’m 6’2” 190lbs with a size 12 boot.

I mostly like getting into the park doing medium jumps, rails, boxes, etc and I enjoy intermediate boardercross courses though I do some free ride stuff to break things up.

I’d say I’m an intermedia rider overall.

So, all that said, what type of board should i be looking at and what size? Are the Lib Tech or GNU options good ones?

Thanks for the help in advance.

- frank

Frank - For sure Lib and Gnu boards are great. For an intermediate looking to develop their freestyle snowboarding but still wanting to ride the rest of the hill the GNU riders Choice is a board worth checking out.

This board is rediculous!! I just switched from an old all mountain Danny Kass Cambered Pro Model. The minute I hit the park I became a 100% better rider. I am convinced that this board has no limits. Flat base bomb the blacks, fly through the flats faster than anyone, jibs, rails, riding/learling switch is a breeze, wheelies, nollies, presses, butters, sloppy landings no problem, this board does it all. I can carve the blacks like I’m on a green. I hit 3’ bumps as fast as I could and land on a pillow. Hit my favorite table tops with bigger air than ever. You will feel invincible on this board. Oh and this thing is extremely light and you can feel it. No chatter at high speeds. Well worth the money. I board 3-4 times per week all over the mountain, mostly in the park now. My only suggestion is to buy a thick cable lock cause you don’t want to loose this board.
