The Optimistic is DCP’s board in the YES range. DCP hits big jumps and does some pretty technical tricks and on the most part he does it out of the confines of the park in the backcountry. This year YES won their first Transworld Good Wood award with the Optimistic in the park snowboards category. If you’re an intermediate to expert snowboarder looking for a snowboard to rip in the park and the backcountry you may have hit the jackpot.

You don’t have to be Einstein to work out that YES is creating some damn good product. The success of last year’s single board line meant Romain, JP and DCP have decided to extend the line for 2011. The 156.5 of last year was different to the other boards in the line, it had a stiffer flex and an asymmetric sidecut, the Dudes is essentially the 156.5 broadened into a different lengths. The asymmetric sidecut will give you even more responsive and ripping heel edge carves and means you don’t have to crank down the forward lean to get some response. The Camrock profile loosens up the ride, allows more mistakes on kicker landings and gives that little bit more float in deep snow, whilst not sacrificing too much edge hold and pop. The Camrock profile on the YES Dudes is a good compromise between the fun of rocker and the control of camber in a firm flexing all-mountain freestyle rocket.

The board that started it all! YES was destined to be a success in its first season, any brand with that much hype and media interest is going to sell a lot of boards, but having an awesome product is the key to longevity. Last season, that product was the Typo, a snowboard that thousands of people bought and love riding. The 2011 YES Typo uses Nidecker’s high grade materials and the Camrock rocker/camber profile with a medium flex for all terrain versatility and freestyle fun.

Japanese snowboarding hero Tadashi Fuse moved to YES from Burton last year in one of the biggest team moves of the season. Tadashi is only a little guy, he’s got small feet and he likes camber; YES didn’t have a board with any of these features so for 2011 they had to design and build him one. All of the high spec materials you expect like a speedy 8800 grade sintered base and triaxial glass with carbon reinforcement meet a cambered profile and a narrow waist for smaller aggressive and powerful men or strong female snowboarders.

This YES snowboard is called the Basic, which gives you a good idea of the spec and the kind of snowboarder it will suit. There’s not really any point in writing a novel about as snowboard called the Basic, needless to say its design is simple but its spec would put a lot of other brands more expensive rides to shame. If you like YES and camber, the Basic is a great option.
