2012 Snowboard-Review Test Teaser

Every May the Snowboard-Review.com team head out to the Kaunertal Glacier, in Austria, to ride the following season’s snowboards. This year we managed to ride over forty of next season’s boards and put-together some really informative reviews which we’ll drop on the site in August. Here’s a short, but dramatic, teaser to wet your appetites.

The Snowboard-Review.com board test teaser 2012

This year’s team consisted of the irrepressible Mikee Cee from FBBB, Rich and Tom, and a new team member for this season Ally McMorland who spends his time working alongside Mikee for FBBB and shredding rails at indoor slopes around the UK. Due to the interest in online video reviews we decided to make all of our reviews ‘video reviews’ so although we managed to test fewer boards this season they’ve all been reviewed in short and concise video format. Obviously we’ll be reviewing more boards throughout the season and we’ll be uploading the usual information for as many boards from as many brands as we possibly can. Keep your eyes peeled for these online video reviews, which we plan to drop in August, and further articles about the test.

Hi Rich,

I just looked up my questions catalogue and found another one :) Have you tested a burton 2012 malavita? Is it right if some say there is a feelable difference between 2011 to 2012 malavita due to living hinge and autocant?

Those 2 features sound like some good improvement..

Hi Mo,

Afraid I haven’t tested the Malvita, last year or this year. I did test the 2012 Cartel bindings which have the Living Hinge, they were comfy and responsive but I didn’t really feel any benefits from the Living Hinge or Autocant. I think they’re just meant to keep the weight down and sit the boot more naturally in the binding. If you could find last year’s model at a good price I’d go for it.

Rich

(Francis - haha, yeah it’s always best to wait for burton to get their site up first because they can get a little funny about it. The main thing we’re doing at the minute is uploading around 500 boards which takes an age and also having our logo redesigned. We don’t want to put up the videos until we can use our new logo. THat’s where we’re at… all in good time. It’s at least 3 months until you can ride anywhere in the Northern hemisphere anyway!)

ah - I mixed it - I meant “the hinge” and not “living hinge”

this new thing allowing the chassi to move along the direction the board is traveling

I would be amazed about if “living hinge” would have changed something between 2011 and 2012. It’s in the malavita and in the diode.

Seems as if getting information about “the hinge” gets harder :)

Give the man a break! :-)

He’s said “before the end of August” and it’s nowhere near the end of August. It’s great you are keen to see the new videos, but it takes time to bring it all together.

Haha, yeah I need an assistant! 500+ boards to prepare images and test for, select similar boards and categorise. 40 video edits to produces, 40 written in-depth review to edit. A new website to commission, a new logo being put together. Video articles on Amplid, Apex Snowboards and the splitboard project to produce and edit. I’m a little stretched at the minute but I’m trying my best to roll-out the reviews as soon as possible, but I work a full-time job too. Thanks for the interest though guys, it’s great motivation. Fortunately I love working on Snowboard-Review!

Shit, it’s still summer folks…  cut the man some slack and let him get his Vitamin D on before winter.

I just picked up SNOWBOARDER’s 2012 gear guide…  oh man, what awesome goodness is coming out for next season.  I think TW’s guide is coming out soon’ish as well.

I might have to weasel my way back into a snowboard shop to get a discount again… :)
