Palmer Saga - 2011

/images/brands/palmer/logo/palmer_logo.gif

In the Saga, Palmer meets tip to tail radial rocker, a combination even the most open-minded Palmer fan wouldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams. Curiously the combination works really well and Shaun and co. have created a great freestyle snowboard that adapts well to riding all over the mountain.

Manufacturer's Description:

Playful, Hook-free Jibbing

Effortless to ride thanks to its pure rocker design, the new Saga is loaded with catch-free feel to excel on jibs and jumps. Spins like a top with predictable flex and lightweight poplar core, and soft buttery feel for sideways action in the park. The Saga floats through powder, absorbs the chop, and cruises in the backcountry with the utmost in ease.

From park to powder and back again, legends and newbies alike will enjoy its fresh playful style and loud graphics.

Snowboard Review:

Palmer is a snowboard company which I have always considered to sit on the periphery of the industry. Maybe I am wrong, but they never seem to try too hard to take on the competition. For sure, their boards always had a good (if slightly expensive) reputation, and Shaun Palmer himself will always be a legend of the industry. But after 15 years of riding, I had never tried one of their boards until I picked up the Saga – and boy had I been missing out.

This true twin, full rockered freestyle board looks amazing with its Mick Jagger style lips graphics, designed by artist Adam White.  Strapping the board on I noticed it was pretty skinny all the way along and so may not be suitable for riders with larger feet but for me it was perfect. Sliding away from the lift I soon got to grips with the medium-soft flex and was buttering and popping 180s all the way down the hill, feeling like this board had been strapped to my feet all season. And when I pointed it straight and tried a bit of euro style carving, the board just transformed itself into a stable, high speed charger with huge amounts of pop. This board was incredibly impressive, a true all rounder and for anyone who wants to ride one board all season, on or off the piste, in the park or powder, on the rails or the kickers, then this would be a great buy. I rode the 159cm which did feel a little long, as I am only 5’8” and weigh around 68kg, but I will be seriously considering buying a shorter version of this board for next season.
