What colour is powder?

Hello, I rode this board last year at a demo and loved it for all mountain riding. Has it changed at all for this year other than the name and base color? I hope it did not change because I plan on picking one of these up. Last year was a weird year for this board due to Jeremy going on to start his own company. Glad to see Jeremy helping snowboarding progress with a new snowboard specific company backed by the legend himself. However in the meantime I would like to buy what I demoed which happens to be his board made by Rossignol. By the way this board can take on big kickers with ease!

No it hasn’t changed….have a read of the 2010 review.

With regards to kickers; I saw Xavier De La Rue on the morning of the World Freeride Champ finals in Verbier. He was riding the Experience in the park and was hitting the big kicker…...rocking out some seriously stylish 3’s and 7’s; that’s how the guy warms-up for straight-lining a 60 degree rock covered face like the Bec Des Rosses! Legend!

Hello Again,

I am curious about how far back the inserts are set back. In the picture it does not appear to be to far from center. I demoed this board last year but I can not remember how the inserts were placed. I like to ride as close to center as possible.

Also what is your opinion on using this board for all mountain riding even on average non powder days?

I think the setback is 20mm.

this board is good in powder but it ain’t like my burton fish! I got the experience 163 this year and i hope one day i can be as fast as this board wants to be. it just fly’s. The only down side is it seems to loose a lot of its edge grip in the tail at lower speeds. Its almost like the magna-traction takes up all the edge grip leaving little to none in the tail. But if you want to fly just skimming above the snow, this is your board. The edge is there when you need it most

On the advice of the good people on this forum, I brought the 167 this year.

Just returned from 20 days riding on the Rossi Experience in stupidly snowy Hokkaido. It worked an absolute treat, and I wanted to thank you all for pointing in this direction. It’s a very versatile board, and I enjoyed immensely. We had 5 days of pretty average snow (by Niseko standards) at the start of the trip, which proved a bit of a blessing. It was a great chance to get the feel of the board and get my style in shape after a year away. The surprising thing about this stick was how confidently it handled big carves on groomed. Very well behaved, when I was a bit nervous about whether it would be too much board for me. I had gone into this thinking that I might need to keep the old board as the groomer model, but the Rossi coped fine with everything I want to do. Rock solid and stable at speed - some people talked about the vibrations through the nose of this board at speed, but I didn’t notice any. The snow was at worst packed powder, so I can’t tell how it copes with ice.

And then it started snowing. Over 2m in three days was pretty insane, and then the Rossi really shone. I’d never boarded bottomless before, so it was a learning experience, but with the bindings set all the way back it was gorgeous and floaty. This also loosened the board right up, and enabled tight turns in tree runs and in semi tracked powder where your line needs to change quickly.

Took your advice also about bindings, and married this with a much stiffer set of Salomon Chiefs. Also upgraded boots to Burton Ions, so all round a much more responsive, lively feel. Honestly, I’m not really how much of the improvement in feel was down to the boots and bindings rather than board. A healthy proportion I suspect.

Thanks again for your help. This site was the single most useful source of knowledge and advice about gear choices. You are generous with your time and knowledge, and it’s much appreciated.

This is an awesome board. Came back from BC a few weeks ago having spent a week in each of Kicking Horse and Revelstoke. Took my new Rossi Experience 163 and Burton Fish (Union Force bindings + Salomon Malamutes. I’m 65-70kg). Was strange riding powder with a tail after so long riding the fish on anything. Without shifting back the bindings, it’s rocker nose means the Experience floats like a dream. It’s rock solid on landings. With it’s camber between the bindings it carves on windblown snow and is super-fast-scary back on the groomers. Was worried that it would be on the long side for me but it responds fast without being twitchy. Point it straight and there’s not a bit of chatter. As soon as it dumped, I’d expected to get the fish out. Didn’t bother, the Rossi was too much fun. I’ve decided I don’t need The Fish any more so am popping it on ebay. This board is a freeride dream. Get one if you can!
