Lib Tech 1986 Snow Mullet BTX - 2010

/images/brands/libtech/logo/libtech_logo.gif

If you haven’t worked out what the initials BTX stand for yet, there may be no hope for you. The Snow Mullet packs the now standard Lib Tech Banana & Magnetraction features into a tapered board with a progressive sidecut for stable cruising at high speeds. The Magnetraction will take care of any ice in your path whilst the rocker profile will provide spade-fulls of float. A modern day, retro freeride legend? Perhaps.

Manufacturer's Description:

The ultimate freeride, jib, powder stick that works great on hardpack and holds an edge in the steep, icy and nasty zones that sometimes get between you and your pow. Patterned after mid-eighties designs, progressive sidecut and taper angle combined with Magne-Traction and Banana between your feet ensure a floaty effortless ride in powder and positive edgehold in all conditions… Rides more like a normal board than a flounder.

A Great board to take if you happen to get stuck in a snowstorm or heli trip.

What colour is powder?

I hate the pink stripe this year but with sticker on it this will be my next Freeride board to complete my quiver (with my Lando) in 2010 ;) Must be funny charging machine in powder glades and trees when there is real snow drop!

Got this board last year, and had to send it back to the manufacture because the top came loose from the base.  So now i have the 2010 version.  The board is great in the POW.  I road it last year in some sick storms in VT and in Utah, It ate it up.  I road a few times this year on some not so great conditions.  The board was not as responsive as I would like.  and it is a directional board so i cant really ride switch with board.  I really dont like riding in anything but fresh snow so this board is good for me.

Thanks Brian!

I do have the Phoenix Lando 160cm and It is really a versatile machine where you can go swich.

I new that the Mullet is less versatile (directional) and so on…

I will think twice now before going in that direction and maybe instead having the Magic Banana to have more playfull than the Mullet and still have as good in Powder… Thanks for you feedback Francis

I’m looking for the ideal size parameters Height: 185cm (6’1 “) Weight: 80kg (176), can the current boot size 11.5 (Burton Ion). Treated Track up to 35%, 65% Pow use. Lib Tech Travis Rice BTX - 2010, and Lib Tech 1986 Snow Mullet BTX - 2010 better for me?

mervinsnow on July 25, 2010 at 03:43 PM

gyuva,

If I was you, in the Lib Tech, I will go for Travis Rice C2 161.5 or Magic Banana 157…  I still have my Lando 160, 2008 and it is still good in Pow even with the sow base TNT and neve bought the Mullet finally… But Travis Rice or Banana Magic have a Sintered base I think…

Me in 2011, I a looking more now for Never Summer Raptor 159cm….

Rich Ewbank on July 25, 2010 at 03:52 PM

I’d go with the Travis Rice or any other Lib deck with C2 Banana, if it’s freeriding you want to use the board for. or maybe look at the Burton Malolo which uses a tapered shape like the Mullett but has an early rise nose instead of a complete banana profile.

I rode the Snow Mullett in May at the board test and it floated like a dream, it initiated turns really easily, but I found the lack of camber in the tail took a lot of fun out of the board. I felt I had zero kick out slashes and tight carves. I just hope for 2012 they put camber into the tail.

Never Summer Raptor… now that board is increadible! It will definitely blow your mind. Freeride dream machine if you fancy remortgaging your house to pay for it!

Thanks Rich,

Do you think, the NS Raptor 159 will be as good if not better than my Lando 160?  I now for the carving and fast speed there is no comparison… Technically the Raptor is now my Dream Machine… And Yet I like to go fast… with my base tune TNT (high maintenance) my Lando was really good but need more… just afraid about Vario Grip that it may be less than BTX and the Pow capacity, but I think Never Summer Raptor will make it… Let me know what you think…. Good site by the way.  Francis

Hi Francis on July 25, 2010 at 05:34 PM

I don’t think pow float is going to be problem on the Raptor. I didn’t get to take the Raptor in the pow, bit I took the SL in a bit of deep stuff and it was fine. The Raptor is really in it’s element on groomers, it’s just unreal in carves, so much acceleration out of them and feel through them. It cains sketchy snow too. It makes everyday piste days so much better. I’d rather take the Lando out on a powder kicker and park session but for freeriding and pistes the Raptor is the joy machine.
