Freeriding with Josh and Bernd

Firstly I should apologise for being a bit quiet on the forums and on the article front of late, but it is for good reason. Whilst the rest of the Alps has been a little starved of snow, it has been dumping for the last week in the Salzburg region of Austria. My local resorts of Flachauwinkl (home to Austria’s Burton Stash and freestyler’s paradise the Absolut Park) and Zauchensee have received a healthy 2ft dump of powder.

On Tuesday and Wednesday I hooked up with Armada Pro Skier Josh Absenger and Aesthetiker co-founder Bernd Egger for some laps of the famous Zauchensee East-side trees. Both Bernd and Josh opened my eyes to the level of freeriding out in Austria, picking crazy pillow lines and super technical cliff drops. By the end of the two days I’d dropped the biggest cliff of my snowboarding life, at 8m I was pretty stoked, I’d hit a pillow line I wouldn’t have looked at without the persuading words of two incredible freeriders and I had a smile so big it hurt.  I try to avoid the whole blogging thing, but I had such a good time that I had to share a bit of footage with the Snowboard-Review.com locals. Big thanks to Bernd and Josh for taking me under their wings and for ripping!

Totally sick video man, watched it several times now and I really hope I will have the chance to ride something like that one day, as well.

Good job mate!

THanks Tobi. Of course you’ll get to ride terrain like that. You just need to know where to find it. Always helps having two very talented freeriders showing you around the spots and a good 2ft snowfall to cover all of the features! Josh the skier in the movie is crazy good. He’d litteraly be looking down a vertical face and be pointing out pillows he was going to hit on the way down just to scrub off a little speed. I’ve never seen someone freeride like that, he’s next level.
