With 20mm of taper a set-back stance and a relatively tight sidecut the Khyber is a firm favourite of Priors customers looking for a snowboard for big pow days and closely packed trees. For 2011 the Khyber has been tweaked and now features a hybrid rocker/camber profile with camber running between the feet an early rise rockered nose and a touch of rocker in the tail to loosen it up a little, but not so much that snappy slashes are off the menu.
The Khyber offers quick turning, all mountain versatility for riders who want to maximize their powder pleasure while minimizing back leg burn with an easy-turning, surfy ride. The Hybrid Rocker gives improved float in powder while camber underfoot maintains performance in hard-pack and variable snow conditions. Riding tight trees and critical sections is now easier than you’ve ever dreamed possible.
The Khyber is named after an off-piste area on Whistler Mountain that is legendary for its treed powder stashes.
There is a great view of the Khyber region from the Prior factory – on a good day we can ride the Khyber trees almost into our back door.

The description Prior gives on these boards are bang on. I’ve been riding a Khyber split since 2007. I bought a non-split the same year. I sold it after using it for 250 days at the end of last season. The board looked like new, but was getting soft and undamped. Totally ridable and it was an excuse to buy a new board. I bought a khyber XCD construction with rocker. Man is it lighter and it feels way shorter with the rocker. It is way stiffer and really damped. I was concerned with the stiffness at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. No complaints. Prior told me it takes a bit to break in. I haven’t tried in powder yet, but hopefully that is soon to come. Man we need snow!
So I’m on my third Khyber since 2007. I haven’t ridden any other type of board since then. I mostly ride steep glades and it works perfectly for that. It turns insanely sharp with tons of float. I went with this board initially since it was one of the wider boards with a short turn radius.
I have nothing bad at all to say about their gear.
I ride the 165 and I weigh between 180 and 200 lbs and am 5’-9”. The size chart works.
I looked at the fissile, but I’ve been so happy with the Khyber that I didn’t want to change.
