Capita Indoor Survival - 2010

A wolf in sheeps clothing, the Capita Indoor Survial is so much stiffer than you might think! Stiff between the bindings and super poppy, but a little slow edge-to-edge. The Indoor Survival is everything you could want for a slopestyle course, stable on rails and gunning into large transitions, catch free and extremely natural spinning backside off kickers, with fantastic edge hold and minimal chatter. Out of the park the Indoor Survival just feels a little uninspiring (not to be confused with bad). It handles everything you can throw at it but just doesn’t have that special something. Best suited to advanced park riders, who get more out of stomping technical tricks than laying down old-school carves and soulful slashes.

Snowboard Review:

There’s a lot to be said about preconceptions! Before I strapped into the Indoor Survival I’d always thought it was a super soft buttery ride for riding technical rails. I wasn’t even close. The Indoor Survival comes with both a cambered and a rockered profile, I took out the traditional camber.

Despite using biaxial glass above and below the core, Capita have successfully stiffened up the Indoor Survival with CFX carbon reinforcement. Torsionally the Indoor Survival is pretty stiff, however it hasn’t made the IS a particularly responsive ride. Edge-to-edge it’s extremely similar to the Bataleon Evil Twin… a little bit slow. At the end of the day, the IS has been designed for riding high speed transitions and rails on slopestyle courses,  and on the plus side the lack of lightening quick response does mean that initiating backside spins is catch free and high speed straight-lines feel really stable. Pop off kickers is supplied by the bucket full and landings were forgiving enough to inspire trick progression without being too soft to restrict the IS to only the most perfectly groomed park landings. Rails were stable and surprise, surprise the true twin shape and flex pattern meant that riding switch was identical to regular.

An ideal board for slopestyle riding, but the stiffness of the Indoor Survival between the bindings and softer nose and tail meant cruising around the pistes wasn’t it’s forte. Think Ride DH but with a bit more torsional stiffness between the bindings and a lot more pop. I rode the 158, I think the 156 would have been a little better matched, so I’d suggest taking 2-3cm off your standard board length.
