DC Devun - 2011

/images/brands/dc/logo/dc_logo.gif

There has been some big news from the DC camp; Devun Walsh is riding reverse camber! Devun has been riding stiff cambered boards since the early nineties, in-fact his first Forum pro model got a reputation as being an absolute ironing board! Fear not, the rocker in the Devun is really light (only 2mm) and there is quadraxial glass, carbon stringers and Ash in the core for pop and liveliness. Smooth and agile to ride, but a snowboard that responds well to aggressive riding; whether your sessioning the pipe and laying down rooster-tails in the pow, the Devun is a great board.

Snowboard Review:

OK, so let’s write a snowboard review about a board which one of the legends of freestyle snowboarding helped design. This is going to be pretty tough job, being critical without looking a bit of a muppet is almost impossible; I mean who am I to tell Devun Walsh he’s got it all wrong? Luckily for me, there really isn’t much to criticize about the DC Devun and I absolutely loved riding it.

Ok so it was slightly stiffer than I am used to riding but then that’s the way Devun rolls. The Devun was incredibly light with tons of weight saving measures which are balanced out with innovative ash stringers running along the board’s length to give it strength and carbon weaved into the Quadraxial glass. This gives the board amazing high speed performance and awesome pop, pinging you off rollers and into the stratosphere effortlessly. With the super shallow 2mm rocker the board performed amazingly through heavy spring powder snow and was super stable for high speed kicker take offs but just pliable enough for buttering onto jibs, for all mountain riding DC have absolutely nailed the mix of rocker profile and flex.

My height is 5´8” and I weigh 68kg, and although I was stoked riding the157cm, I would almost certainly buy the 154 cm. I think to ride the 157 I’d want to weigh at least somewhere around the early 70kgs. The all new DC Devun is definitely too stiff for dedicated jibbers to buy but for everyone else and definitely snowboarders who want to ride one snowboard all season, freeriding and lapping the park, the Devun is a great investment and could well have you shredding like Britsh Columbia’s favourite son in no time.

Hey Guys

I was just wondering if this board is worth the cash for it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it from store reps but they havn’t rode it yet. Your site is really the only one who rode it. Nothing on it in forums or really anywhere yet. I’m coming from a camber board and I’m wondering how big of a change it will be and if this board is sick? Actually, I started on a used Burton T6 I picked up from some chick selling her ex Boyfriends board and she didn’t know what it was haha.

Hi Sam,

Unfortunately, Ben who did the review, comes on he board test and then goes into hiding for 12 months… so I’m afraid getting his opinion on it ios going to prove difficult. I think if you are coming from a T6 you are going to find this year’s Devun pretty easy to ride. Devun like stiffer boards, last year his board was based on the HKD and was cambered. This year he has a touch of rocker, but only a minute amount, so this board will pretty much behave like a vero camber board with a little bit more edge to edge agility in deeper snow. If you want to give rocker a go and you like firmer flexing boards I don’t think you can go too far wrong with eth Devun.

Hey, I love the review but I just have one thing that is keeping me from buying this board. Is it to stiff? I weigh about 145 pounds and am 6 feet on the button. But the board I ride right now is the Forum Destroyer Chillydog 2011. It is soft but I ride it mostly for rails. I really want a board like this (either this or the MLF) but I dont want to have to work out for 3 months on my legs to get a inch of buttery goodness!
