While the West Coast of the US and Canada have been enjoying record snowfalls, spring has arrived a little prematurely in Europe. Although there is a little snow forecast for the next week and lowering temperatures it probably wouldn’t be untimely to say us Europeans are now enjoying the last week or two of a fairly dry and frankly bizarre season.

There’s still plenty of fun to be had, only yesterday my friend Bernie and I braved adding further goggle burn to our faces and headed to our local resort of Zauchensee. The lift company at Zauchensee has done an incredible job of making sure there is enough snow on the pistes to keep holiday makers happy, I dread to think how much diesel goes into an evening of grooming. We headed out with the aim of building a few small features and milking them for some end of season photos.
First stop was an old dilapidated farmers hut. It still had a foot or two of snow on the roof, so we shaped a kicker onto the roof and then a kicker off the snow on the roof to super flat landing. The result was some pretty cool shots of Bernie styling a variety of tweaked grabs of the roof and some pretty sore knees. Next stop was a big pile of snow that had been amassed to freshen up the pistes a little that evening. We shaped a 5ft tall wall into 3ft of transition and 2ft of vert, probably the tightest quarter pipe ever made. Bernie made mincemeat of the feature and threw down some uber styled Anderlecht hand-plants. Not having the skills or the tenacity to hand-plant and almost certainly head-plant instead, I just tried a couple of airs to fakie, as you can see from the photos I wasn’t exactly flying out of the transition, but it was fun.
To the moral of the story; if you are fortunate enough to still be enjoying perfect parks and light backcountry powder missions stay safe and enjoy. If like me you’re trying to make the most of the last few weeks of questionable snow conditions and face melting weather, remember snowboarding if all about fun, so find a unique feature and get creative. Snowboard-Review.com is on a little break for the next three months, we’ll be testing next year’s boards up on the Kaunertal Glacier in May and then uploading all of next year’s boards to the site and creating some fresh interviews and articles for you guys to check out in September and October when the excitement for the 2011/12 season starts to build. Have a great summer and we hope to see you soon!

Props. Thanks for the awesome work Rich, Tobi, Tom and Dan in the site. I dusted off my longboard today to get some riding in although I still probably have a couple more days out in the Rockies.
