DC Launches Park Live Video Concept

Marketing is a funny thing. One the one hand, we all pay for it through the products we buy. On the other hand snowboarding’s marketing spend supports the media we consume, pro-riders (and therefore snowboarding’s progression) and every once in a while a cool concept that directly benefits us…the consumer.

For the last decade snowboard brands have been lining up to sponsor terrain parks. The Van’s Penken Park in Mayrhofen, Austria or the Burton Stash parks jotted around the world, to name a few. DC has been doing the same thing in Europe by creating the DC Area 43 parks, which are situated all over the Alps and Pyrenees, from the lesser known St. Lary to the uber resorts of Meribel and Kitzbuhel. This year they’re adding a totally unique concept called the DC Live Park to their parks in Meribel (France), St Lary (France), Font-Romeu (French Pyrenees) and Lenzerheide (Switzerland).

Each of these parks has cameras installed to film the key features. Before you set off on your day of lapping the park, pick up a special sticker and apply it to your helmet or goggles. Each time you ride an obstacle with a camera, the sticker will activate the camera which will record your riding. The filmed footage is streamed to www.dceurope-livepark.com, a site where filmed riders can view, edit or share the footage on various social media platforms.

The idea is that the DC Live Park idea will spread into other DC Area 43 parks and that more cameras will be added to each obstacle so that some super slick edits can be created. And I can’t see some of the big US resorts turning down the opportunity to create a similar system in their parks…ohh it’s all getting a bit Big Brother.
