Here’s a little gem from our friends at Amplid. Amplid has put together a three part series about ski and snowboard design and RnD. In the first episode Peter Bauer and Anian Thrainer the brains behind the brand introduce themselves and then run through the basics of ski and snowboard geometry. In the second episode due for release next Monday the two co-founders will go into more details about how they conduct RnD. For snowboard geeks and newbies alike it’s a pretty interesting watch.

Here’s the speil from Amplid:
Anian Thrainer and Peter Bauer are two experienced shred chefs with a taste for the finer rides in life. Seven years ago the two friends joined forces to create Amplid, the first company to produce both Skis and Snowboards from the outset. Now in its seventh season, Amplid is serving a banquet of 10 snowboards and 11 skis to shred hungry riders all over the world. But what makes the perfect ski and snowboard recipe? How much R&D goes into creating a new ride? And how long does it take to turn simple ingredients into a next level product?
From Anian creating the first shape drafts in a CAD program to Peter scouring the planet for new materials and commissioning prototypes from the Amplid factory for team testing; to be ahead of the competition requires an endless cycle of ideas, innovation and research. Amplid Shred Recipes is a three part video series which gives an insight into Peter’s and Anian’s quest to create the best skis and snowboards on the planet and shows how at Amplid the two disciplines really fertilize one and other.
Episode 1 starts with introductions to Anian and Peter and a little background on Amplid’s history. The two then explain the fundamentals of board and ski geometry and how tweaking key elements of the shape changes the way a product rides, and of course what the limitations are.
Episode 2 explores material and design R&D at Amplid and the constant juggling act between performance, weight and durability. To be released on Monday 19th December.
