GNU Riders Choice C2 BTX - 2011

/images/brands/gnu/logo/gnu_logo.gif

This is the GNU teams’ choice for one reason; pack the Riders Choice into your board bag for that trip to Japan and you can rest assured that you’ll be able to ride everything you encounter; rails, park and insanely deep powder. With the weight you’re saving you’ll be able to smuggle tons of Japanese candy back in your board bag…….or sushi, but that would be plain wrong! This years’ model comes with a C2 Banana profile for added pop and for improved grip through turns, which asks the question ‘who needs a quiver?

Manufacturer's Description:

The award winning Banana Tech Riders Choice is ridden and designed by freestyle riders Zach Leach, Dennis Buonjourno and Nate Ferrell. These guys test this board in all conditions all over the world every year and have chosen C2 BTX camber banana combo as their favorite geometry. The camber gives the board pop and end to end stability for big landings, critical lines and aggressive riders. The Banana between the feet makes for great carving on hardpack and ice and easy float in powder and broken variable snow conditions. Focused on park freestyle this medium firm flexing C2 BTX board also rips the entire mountain. You can ride Banana tech about 3cm shorter than your regular board even in pow because they float so well. Your jib board is now your powder board. Handmade by snowboarders at Mervin MFG in the USA. Board: GNU Riders Choice 2011 154.5 Binding: Forum Shaka Boots: 32 Team-Two, 32 Juhyo, Size 9.5 Weight: Me, my board and equipment together are 80kg.

Pros: - fun to ride in all conditions: jib, park, pipe, carve, pow - i’d never expected this board which is “focused on park freestyle” to carve that nice. - the C2 power banana with its rocker / double camber really makes the difference! - once its properly waxed (factory wax is always crap) its fast enough to beat my buddies.

Cons: - bad durability and quality: chips and other dings on nose and tail, the base has noticeable offset against the insets near the inserts. after half a season, this board looks more wasted than my last one after several seasons! - expected to feel more from magnetraction: magnetraction doesn’t change the fact that new edges are always better than used ones… - quite heavy compared to the durability.

Hi there.

I’m 6,1 and 200 lbs so just hesitating between 162w and 166w. Could you please advise keeping in mind that I’m trying to get universal intermediate deck after my 1st season that will help me to progress.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Alex,

In my opinion I would go for the 162w out of those two lengths, think it will be more fun and more versitile…

Hey Tom.

Thank you for the advise, I’m really about to get 162. Will definitely write a review of it here)

Cheers.

Hi Cobaasta,

What are you suggesting for the same approach but better durability and base ... but with the same performance and fun factor?  Cause I used to have Mervin (Lib Tech) and like it a lot but I do have the same problem that you mention but hard to find out an alternative Thanks

Nitro Team Gullwing is an absolute winner, probably my favourite from the test. Snappy and very light, perfect for kicker riding. You might like the Never Summer Proto CT which is a bit damper and little bit more suited to freeriding. Both are covered on the video reviews… coming soon :)

Thanks Rich Can`t wait to see the video… Will take a look for Nitro Team Gullwing… but here in East Coast it is pretty icy spot that is why I do like Magne traction… Don’t you think SL or Heritage is more in the categorie of Rider Choice rather than Proto that look more freestyle?  But true Vario Grip is certainly a good Alternative…
