heyo

i’ve been doing my research like it’s my job for the past 2 weeks (rather than focusing on my schoolwork…) and i still can’t really decide on a board.
i’m somewhat of a beginner. i would say i’m between a beginner and intermediate. the board i have right now is awful for me and i really don’t enjoy riding it.
i live on the east coast so i’m riding mostly ice and bleh. i never go in the park so i’m looking for something all-mountain. i definitely want either rocker or hybrid, no question. i’m 5’4’‘, about 130 lbs and i have a 144 right now. from what i’ve heard, that’s too short for me but i’m kinda nervous to move up some sizes, but i don’t know.

at first, i had my heart set on the Rossi Justice but i think it’s a little too aggressive for me in particular.
what i’ve been seriously considering lately is the Rome Jett. everything i’ve read about it seems pretty awesome.

any suggestions on any other boards? i’ve literally spent the entire last 2 weeks trying to find the perfect board for me and i’m slowly dying inside.

Hey there colleen_erin,

we don’t want you to neglect your studies, so here’s a little help. =)

Both, the Jett and the Justice are solid boards, the main difference is, that the Jett is more of a beginner boards and the Justice is more of an intermediate ride.
In the end it’s up to you whether you want a ride that will be super easy to progress on and learn linking turns and going down blues and reds (Jett) or whether you want a board that will be a bit harder (though absolutely not impossible!) to learn your riding on but then will be a keeper for quite some time (Justice)!
I personally like being challenged when riding and I like the advantages of a stiffer board that doesn’t give me any chatter when going faster and lets me pump in and out of carves.

But it’s really your decision, just make up your mind and go for the board you like best!

Cheers Tobi

hey colleen_erin

What do you ride now?

In my experience, taking something like a Burton Feather (or similar) onto cruddy conditions isn’t very pleasant and just makes everything a chore - and makes your legs hurt most of the time!

I would definitely upgrade to an all mountain female-specific board. If you’re still perfecting your turns and getting your confidence up on speed then it would be best to buy somthing that you can progress on. If you’ve got the money the Burton Lipstick is a really good choice - it’s Flying V so you get a combination of camber and rocker, and has a nice poppy feel so that if you decide you want to try some small jumps or butters you’ll be set. It also cuts through chop quite well. From the board specs you’d be fine with either the 145 or 149 - remember that a longer length will give you better stability at speed but a shorter length makes it easier to initiate turns. I don’t think it this stage you’d notice much difference between the two lengths though.
Another option would be the Gnu B-Street - another good board for progressing on and can handle most conditions well - quite similar in ride to the Lipstick. It also has Mervin’s Magnetraction so it grips really well in icy conditions.
You could potentially also go for something like the Rome Vinyl - its a really great board for progression, even as you progress to being an intermediate. The graphic is pretty good on it this year too.

Yeah it would be good to know what you’re riding right now so we can understand waht you don’t like about it. But yeah the Justice and Jett would be good choices for a progressing beginner/intermediate. You might also want to check out the Rossi Circus… the 147 would solve your length dilema.

How about the Capita SMF?

Not that I’m hawking Capita gear in this place, but, well, it has cats with laser eyes on the top sheet! Laser cats! :)

But to be serious, it is one of the boards that I’ve heard people rave about, and still from Capita, the Saturnia.

Both of those have a freestyle slant, and don’t come equipped with magnetraction. If it’s extra grip you’re after, then the Roxy Ally BTX and Gnu’s B Nice could be good boards to use and abuse for a while (judging by the positive reviews of them).
