Hi,

new season is comming and I realised that after 6 years on my first and only board I really need to invest into the new one. And because I was happy with my old Nidecker for all those years, I know nothing about todays boards. So I’d be really grateful if you could help me.

My situation: Im 6’14’’ and 183 lbs and have been snowboarding for 6 years now. All those years I’ve been riding really old Nidecker 165XL.

As for my riding: I’m from Europe and usually go boarding in the Alpes and here in Czech. What I like is to go down as fast as my head allow me(faster = better :) ). Usually on groomed (often hard and icy) pistes,  but my goal is to get my ass off the pistes in pow and try some backcountry in the future. Ye, and park really is not my playground, but I like natural jumps around the hill.

So I’m looking for board which will suit me for next 4 - 5 years carving/edge-to-edge on groomed pistes and more ‘n’ more in pow/backcountry descents. Since I have great experience with Nidecker boards I find the Nidecker Megalight 167XL (10/11). Is it right choise for me? What about Camrock and UG (Ultimate grip), should I go for both or just UG or I can live without it?

Which other boards would be suitable for me?

Thank you in advance for your time and answer.

Mich

Hey Mich,

as long as the Ultralight lies withing your budget, I’d say look no further; the board definitely is the bomb for what you are looking for.
It includes some of the highest tech products in the snowboard world, the Camrock profile will provide you with a better float in pow and still gives the board a really good edgehold even at high speeds. The Ultimate Grip is similar to MagnaTraction, FrostBite Edges and whatever they are calling it.. Simply put it will improve your edgehold even more, especially on hard and icy snow. (check here for a little more information).

Again: If the price does not hurt you too much, go for it! You’ll most probably never wanna look back!

Cheers Tobi

Thank you for your answer

So Camrock = less edge-hold, but U-grip should fix it, right?

Only problem is that I cant find perfect match in e-shops for reasonable price. I spent hours by searching the right one, but still nothing.

I found only this one:
Megalight Camrock (no UG) 163XL - 420 EUR (2010/2011)

Other options are around 700 Eur (Megalight with Camrock and UG), crazy.

What about the length? 165 is exactly to my chin. Im afraid that 163 won’t be enough, I thought about 167 version.
