Hello All,

I have been boarding for about 20 years.  (Yes, I should probably not have to ask this question…but I am)  My current board is about 5 years old, and I feel the time has come to upgrade.  It is a Salomon, 164.5, and I believe is just an all around board.

I basically try to only ride when the conditions are good.  For the most case, that’s resort riding, on powder days.  I ride fairly fast, and am essentially NEVER found in the park.

I’d love to buy two boards, a powder board then an all mountain, but can’t squeeze that into the budget.  Anyway, I’ve always liked Lib Tech, but am also open to other great all round boards, with a priority to being a killer floater in the powder!  I am considering:

Lib Tech T Rice Pro
Lib Tech Dark Series.

Thoughts on either of these Lib Techs based on experience?  Others to consider?  (Also heard good things about Arbor and Jones, but have not looked to deeply there…)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Not a huge response to this…

Anyway, leaning heavily towards the Tprice.  The Pointy version for sure.  The only real decisions to make are Horsepower, or just the Pro.  Also not so sure on 164.5, or 161.5.  Lean towards the longer…Thoughts appreciated.

What are your stats?

Height, weight, boot size?

How much experience do you have?

Are you looking for a stiff board or a more moderate flex?

What is your budget?

Oops…

Weight = 200
Height = 5’11
Boot Size = 10.5
20 years on a board.  Ride fast, like the steeps, and powder is the focus.
No real budget, it’s been a long time since I spent money on a board, and I will pay what is required for the right board!

Probably pulling the trigger on the Trice Pro.  I’ve heard the Horsepower is actually not that different.  More marketing\looks, to command more cash…

161.5…or 164.5 is my major decision point.  Last night, leaned towards the larger.  This morning, leaning towards the shorter.  I think there will be PLENTY of float on the smaller.

Thanks for your help, and the site you provide.  It’s a gold mine!  :)

Not much in it is there!

If you want to go for the shorter length, I’d probably go for the Darks Series 161W. The shape is ever so slightly directional, it has a slighly longer nose kick than tail kick which will add that little extra float on pow days, The sidecut is almost exaxtly the same as that on the Travis Rice 164.5 which is pretty shallow for a stable straight lining and mellow turn initiation and exit. However, you have the advantage of Basalt in the construction for smooth lightweight pop and Bamboo throttle pads/risers under the feet for increased response. At 25.7cm at the waist it’s a perfect fit for your boot size too.

Thank you so much for the quick response.  This brings back one of the boards I was looking at earlier…(Dark Series)

It does indeed. I just thought the 5mm narrower waist on the 161W Dark Series might feel a bit more responsive as your feet aren’t particularly big. Plus you’ll have a bit more float from the slightly directional shape of the Dark Series so going for the shorter board won’t matter too much.
