Choosing the next board

Hi,

I am looking to buy a new board. In the past I’ve ridden Burton Freestyle and a Gnu board (might’ve been something like Temple Cummins Special). Apart from last weekend in Milton Keynes I haven’t ridden in about five years. However, I used to be quite advanced rider (mostly because I used to live next to skiing centre outside UK) and getting back on snow felt quite natural.

So what I am looking for: a board that suits park and freeriding. It’s unlikely that there is going to be a lot of off-piste riding so mainly groomed slopes. The technology has moved forward a lot in five years and I find that I am slightly lost choosing a board.

I am roughly 183cm tall and 85kg (183 centimetres = 6.00393701 feet and 85 kilograms = 13.3852088 stones). My UK shoe size is 8.5 - 9.

The boards I am looking at:

  - Endeavor High5 (157cm)
  - Burton Custom X (160cm)
  - Neversummer Proto CT (160 cm)

I’ve been reading the small amount of material about the High5 and from what I can read it might be possible to get away with a bit shorter board. I am aiming mainly for park but wouldn’t like to get a board just for boxes/rails as I might want to do some freeriding as well.

The high5 seems like a compelling option as it’s a lot cheaper than the two others.

Ideas, comments?

Yo mvko,

the High5 surely is a great ride with stunning graphics on it! Yet, I’d say it’s a bit more of an allmountain-freestyle board rather than a park board.
Our King-Of-Jib Winner and one of the most popular boards around here last season was the NeverSummer Evo. You already named the Proto which is somewhere between the NS Evo and the NS SL. For mainly riding park, I’d recommend you stick with the Evo, though. It will allow you to flex the board more easily for rails and butters.

The Burton Custom X is a really stiff ride. It’s way stiffer than the regular Custom, so I really wouldn’t take that out in the park, you’ll probably just end up hurting yourself!

My 2cents, if you need any more help, feel free to ask.
Cheers Tobi
