Hey all, new guy here. First off, if one of the Ewbanks or site admins or whoever sees this post, many thanks for a great website and forum. I’ve really enjoyed combing through it and have learned a lot.
I have a few questions, but one main predicament and answers/solutions to anything would be greatly appreciated. I just bought a 159 Rome Anthem 2011. I wanted something that I could use to charge hard on the groomers and liked the idea of hybrid camber for a little extra float in powder. I’m not a jibber or someone who hangs out in the park. I thought this would be fine for my size 10 (UK) boots (which I was still a little hesitant on) but it turns out that I actually wear a size 11 boot. (I’m at University right now with my gear at home and was surprised to hear that the boots I have been using were that big, because my normal shoes are a 10.) Now I’m a bit worried that the Anthem (on its way to my house now) is too thin at 148mm. I’m a pretty aggressive carver and the last thing I want is toe drag. Would this width result in toe drag, and would this width result in any other problems for me?
Because I’m a bit worried about the thin width, I’ve also been looking at the 2012 Capita Black Snowboard of Death (also 159) because it has a similar camber/rocker profile and is supposed to be great for carving. It has a width of 256. Is this because of its “death grip” in the center of the board or is it generally wider? Would this be a better fit for my boot size? I’ve heard the BSOD is a great board and I wouldn’t mind shelling out the bit of extra cash to get it. Any comments on the BSOD in general or “death grip” specifically?

Since the board is on the way in you might as well mount some bindings on it and see with the angles of the bindings if the heel or toe sticks out a lot. Typically with size 11 boots would require a wide board.
Maybe also your boots are too big? Did your toes touch the end of them while standing in the boots laced up?

Steve, thanks for the reply. I was able to stop by my house and check out the board and boots situation. Just as I thought (and was slightly bewildered by), my size 11 boots seemed to fit fine. My toes did touch the toe of the boot and felt comfy. It’s just really strange. I had bought those boots about 3 or 4 years ago and did not remember that I got that large of a size, but they have been fine to ride with. Next time I get a chance, I’ll put my bindings on the board and see how things look. I’m also going to see how long my boots are compared to other boots of similar size; maybe mine were just labeled wrong? Considering my riding style, any suggestions for how much overhang is okay?
Anyone else have info on the width of the Capita BSOD?
