If I’m looking for a board mainly for carving on groomers, I’m an advanced rider and am rarely in the park (and if I am, I’m just hitting kickers). Is the Nitro Pantera LX a good choice? Or will it be to much for me to handle? I read the review on the site but, noticed that it hasn’t been tested; just looking for some additional info on the board. I’m 5’10 and around 160-170lbs.

As well, do you think the Head I.CT Kers is geared toward the same kind of riding? I’ve heard terrible things about the AK but the I.CT lacks the snake profile the AK has; it sticks with the traditional camber.

Are you wanting a new model or will last session suffice?

For me, doesn’t matter. Whichever board will suit my style of riding better. Side note: Are you asking me because there are big changes in store for these boards in the upcoming 2011/2012 season?

Yeah avoid the Head AK at all cost unless you can find one from the 2009/10 season as that board had traditional camber. The Pantera looks really good this coming season but it is going to be pretty damn stiff with the Basalt and Carbon laminates. If you’re after a beast to set on an edge and make mincemeat out of everything you point it down then it’s a winner, probbaly not so much fun in tight trees.

Yea, I’m definitely going to test-out/ride the Pantera but I’m just afraid it will be a bit to stiff for me to ride as my ‘full time’ board. Any word on the I.CT Kers? It’s more of an all around board for resort groomers, am I right?

As in the technology or the Force i.Kers board?

I like Kers makes the board feel lively, really nice for popping in larger transitions and short radius carves.

There is a board on the head website (http://www.ridehead.com/products/boards.php?region=ce&tag=men) called the i.CT Kers. To my knowledge the Force i.Kers is geared more towards park riding and I’m looking for a more on-piste board.

Sorry my mistake. I’m afraid I haven’t had a chance to ride it, but from what I know about it, it’s a great boardercross style piste slayer. Yes of all of the boards in the head range for carving and big bowl freeriding the i.CT is probably the best suited to it. It’s nice that it comes with a variety of waist widths too. I’m afraid I have little idea of the flex on it but if you’re an experienced rider and your not at the bottom of the weight recommendations I should think it’ll be fine.

Haha, no problem, you never have time to ride them all :p. I’m assuming it would have to be pretty stiff tho. Thanks for the info and yea, the variable width’s is nice to choose from since my boot is a bit large haha.

If you go last season you save dough, that’s all.

I’m pretty close to your stats and I purchased the Salomon Answer last season in 159 as an all-mountain freeride board.  It’s light, fast and is great edge to edge.  It’s been replaced by The Man Board this year so if you find it it should be a sweet deal.

Rich was pretty stoked on the Custom X last season, a beast of a board but it would destroy the gnarliest terrain…  if you survive it. :)

Oh, also a sick deck is the K2 Turbo Dream.  I would purchase that board in a heartbeat this season, it was my favourite at a demo last season and a lot of other people were wowed by it’s performance.

Steve, thanks for the heads up. I’ve actually hopped on the K2 Turbo Dream last season. The only complaint I’ve had about the board is that at high speeds on steep piste’s the edge seemed to slip out from under me and I was left skidding the tail end of the board - I think it was due to the stiffness of the board. I’ve never tried the Custom X, maybe this season I will try it. From your description it sounds like something I’ll enjoy.  Yes, I’ve heard many good things about the man’s board from salomon. The only thing I don’t like about it on paper is that it’s rockered and I’m more of a fan of a cambered board. I hear it still has amazing edge hold and it rides pretty stiff so the board is definitely a good choice for me to consider - got to ride it first tho.

No it’s 90% regular camber, they just start the nose and tail kick a little earlier. You honestly won’t notice the difference until you get the board in powder. I rode the 159 Man board and it was damp and powerful but not unmanageable, a fantastic all-mountain snowboard… absolutely loved riding it in the pipe, tracks up walls like a laser guided missile.

Mmmm…interesting. Definitely sounds like a board I’d be willing to ride then.
