I know you fellas get a thousand a day of these types a questions but after looking around i have had no luck an thought i’d try the minds here.

Here’s the low down, basically I am in the market to get a new board. Some background info: I am 5’11 bout 230lbs and with a 9.5 boot, i’d say my skill level is early intermediate. I pretty much stick to the groomers an i don’t hit the park but i have been known to slay some small jibs along the trail and i don’t see much pow either. I like to carve it up and fly down the slopes as well. Also a board that can help me progress and help me out now and maybe carry me into the higher levels if possible. I’m pretty much your classic “all mountain, weekend warrior type”. Being a young college student funds are limited and I would like to keep the cost of the board below 500$.

Talking to a few local pro’s and searching the net looks like the amtek boards from rossi are the direction i want to go. I am not opposed to other brands but so far that’s what i have came up with, any suggestions are welcome. I started this quest for a new board last season and had my sites set on the one mag but now that the new board lines are out i’m interested in the 2012 boards. The problem i have run into thus far is finding out whats the low down on the new one mag. I have looked up the reviews and they place it as do it all board, wich is good an all but as i said above i don’t hit the park at all. But also upon browsing boards i also seen the new Rossi Taipan and after looking into that review i can’t see alot of difference in the two at least from the reviews i have seen. So whats the difference in the two and whats your take on my whole debacle?

I think Rossi, as with K2 and Salomon, etc. are putting out some excellent popsicle sticks this last little while.  The One Magtek was my OMFG board at the start of last season and I really enjoyed it when I demo’d it last season.

The main difference between the Taipan and the One Magtek is the core.  The Taipan is all wood and the One is wood/carbon/kevlar composite.  Both I believe have the same rocker profile and it’s one that I personally like with the camber between the bindings.

If you are low on funds I would for sure look to last seasons stuff right now while we are still in summer.  I haven’t heard of major changes in either the Taipan or One Magtek for this season so saving some money for the ever important lift ticket(s) or if your super balling seasons pass would be a smart way to go.

Between the two I would still lean on the One because of it’s stiffer feel and flex…  it will run and gun with the best of them but the Amptek rocker makes it playful went you want to get your jib on.  I rode the 2010 One Mag and it kicked my ass but it was totally different last season with the Amptek, was like another snowboard not even related to the last one.

My apologies for hijacking this thread but I’m thinking of buying my first snowboard and from what I’ve read on the first post, I’m kinda the same rider except I can only go snowboarding 2-3 times a year instead of weekends.

I was also looking into the Rossi Taipan 2012 but I’ve minimised my buying options to these 3:

- Rossi Taipan 2012
- APO Line 2012
- Nidecker Prime 2012

I haven’t tried any of these boards and I prefer to test it before buying but are there any other boards similar to those 3 I haven’t thought of? The Rossi looks sick but it’s pretty difficult to find a shop where they sell Rossignol snowboards here (plenty of shops have the Rossi ski’s but they don’t sell the snowboards???)...

(I don’t really care what brand it is, as long as the board is good and I’m not really on a budget.)

Many thanks!

Out of that list I would pick the Taipan… it’s got the fastest base by a country mile.
