Hi

First of all thank you for the site - a terrific resource for any snowboarder

I’ve currently got my eye out on a very good bargain, used but almost new 2010 Lib Tech Dark Series 155cm board on ebay.

I’d probably say I’m about an intermediate rider. I can link my turns going regular (working on switch), enjoying going at speed but have not done any park/rails, only a few small jumps. This would be my first board I would own myself, previously just rented or borrowed a mates board (151cm Sierra Reverse Crew which I quite enjoyed).

I wear a size 8 boot, 163cm (5"4’), 64kg (141lbs). My main concern is if the board is too long for me and whether it is beyond my current skill level. Reviews I’ve read are it is a pretty unique and advanced board so I’m a bit afraid of feeling all out at sea while riding it.

I probably wouldn’t consider this board if I had to buy it new and at full price but its going at less than 50% RRP which has me interested! What do you think?

Cheers

Hi Inspirated,

Glad you’ve found the site useful, we aim to please.

Regarding the Dark Series, you couldn’t really have found a board any less like the board you’ve been learning on. The Dark Series is a firm flexing all-mountain freeride charger best suited to advanced riders. I think at your current level and the fact that you haven’t ruled out hitting rails and jibs in the park that the board probably isn’t a good fit. If you’d said that you were an experienced freerider and that you were looking for a board to point some powder fields and tair-up some groomers then I would have sid you were spot on… a Dark Series would make a great freeride quiver board for you, but for taking you to the next level I think it’ll be too much like hard work.

My advive would be to do for a board around the 150 mark with a hybrid rocker camber profile but with a more moderate flex. Go on our Board Selecta! page select:

Riding terrain - Park & Freeride
Board Shape - Directional Twin or Directional
Cost - Medium

I’m sure you’ll find some of these boards available with discount. If you can’t pass up a bargain, pick up the Dark Series wax it up and store it away until your freeride skills are to the level where it’s size and stiffness are just what you need.

Hope that helps,

Rich
