Hey,
My name is Pete and I am a 6’1”, 200 lb rider from Killington Vermont. I need a new park board cause my rome artifact just was not working in the park for me. ( too soft). What I need is a good slope style board that can kill it all over. Im talking 50 footers, and standard rails. Pretty much the normal slope style course. I was looking at the Bataleon Riot mainly, but I was also glancing at the DC devun pro, and the bataleon evil twin. What can you recommend? Any other boards that you think would be good too would be great.

Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete,

I can imagine tha Artifact was next to useless for a man of your stature.

My first advice would be to hold-on until next season. There are some fantastic snowboards that would be right up your street.

The Rossi Jib Saw - a new release for 2011/12. It has a twin tip shape that goes upto a 160mW. Instead of standard camber it has freestyle amptek which is camber for the majority of the board with early rise tips. There is Carbon and Kevlar in the construction for plenty of dempening and pop, a very fast sintered base and Magne Traction edges which should make mincemeat of any East Coast Ice.

Rome Mod Rocker - Nothing like the Artifact, the Mod Rocker is reverse camber but there is loads of reinforcement for supplying pop and making sure it won’t wash out on tail heavy landings. Our tester Tom really enjoyed this deck for jibbing and charging.

Endeavor Live (Rocker or Camber) - I rode the Camber version this year. It’s a do everything slopestyle board with a nice aggressive sidecut and plenty of liveliness in the flex. The camber version is solid as anything off jumps but wasn’t the easiest to press so perhaps the Reverse camber version would be more up your street.

DC PLY - The only issue with this board is that the biggest it goes is 156.5 so it’s probably going to be too short. The camber between the feet is ace for popping ollies and grip up icy pipe walls but the flat sections before and after the bindings are great for pressing on boxes. Nice board and it’s priced insanely cheap.

Thank you for the advice.

Ive ridden TBT before and I enjoyed it. Could you recommend a bataleon board as well? I am going to reaserch all of the boards you reccommended and hope fully I will have a better park board this year.

Thanks, Pete

Sure I was just under the impression that the biggest size the ET goes upto is a 157, but I was wrong having checked the catalogue for next year it will go upto a 159W… which would be a good size providing your feet are big enough to warrant a wide deck. Yeah the Evil Twin is a really nice slopestyle board, good medium longitudinal flex.

Thank you for the advice. My feet actually do work well on a wide board. I ride a size 10:5 so i can work with either a wide or normal.
Just from a cost stand point, is the 157 2011 evil twin a good fit as well? I usally ride a smaller board because it helps in the park, so a 157 is no problem.

Thanks, Pete

From a weight point of view I felt great on a 155 but then again I’m 5’9” and 155lbs so the 157 might be a little too small, you’d certainly be over the recommended weight range for other boards around that length, helpfully Bataleon don’t provide recommended weight ranges. Your call, it might work out fine,my hunch would be that you’re a little too heavy for a board that size.

Thats what i was thinking as well just from readin reviews and such. Would a the bataleon riot work? With me being a bigger rider, I was thinking that I would still be able to flex it like a smaller rider on an evil twin.

If you’re hell bent on riding a shorter deck I’d have a look at the Endeavor Hi5 157 it’s a medium flex but has flat kicks which keep the effective edge a couple of cms longer than other boards it’s length. I think it’ll be slightly softer than the Riot and you’ll have plenty of grip on icy East Coast take-offs. The Riot uses a quadraxial glass so it’ll be quite a bit stiffer torsionally, i.e. not so great for butters. The Evil Twin even at a 157 will feel a lot stiffer than your Artifact.

Just thought of one last thing. What about the Rome Agent in either rocker or camber?

Yeah it’s a hybrid rocker and it’d be a good choice, ideal for slopestyle. Might also want to check out the Reverb Rocker being release this coming season.

Whats the difference between the ET and the ET classic?

The classic is the original Evil Twin geometry. The standard ET is the current evolution. The classic has slightly differnt TBT and a tighter sidecut, it also has more pointed tips. The differences are only subtle but there are differences.

Hey,
Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice. I ended up going with the 159 bataleon riot. I think that it is going to break in and become softer, and with my weight, be a perfect super facst park board. I’ll let you know how it rides this season. Thanks again!
