Hello, I am pretty new to snowboarding. well, not new, but not good. I am looking to buy a used board because i dont have too much money to spend this season. I am 220lbs and 6’3 tall. i have a few options. First is a 162 palmer classic, it is a pretty good board, in decent condition, surface scratches, but nothing too too bad. An old (probably 2006) burton supermodel 166. It has been ridden more than the palmer and has a few more scratches. 3rd: a mint condition burton classic 172, it is a little big for me, and the graphic is gay as fuck, but oh well. What do you guys think i should go with?

/edit: also my freind is selling a good conditoin burton se7en but i’m unclear about the size. It might be 159.5 which, in my mind, would put it in the running as well. thanks.. i could post pictures if you guys need them

Hi there,
the Palmer sounds nice; It’s an outdated model but as far as I know Palmer it will be a freeride-ish board. Is this what you are planning on riding?
Because if you prefer hitting rails in the park, this board is not for you!

I just checked and I found a brand new Palmer Classic 161 for 230€. Just FYI that they can be bought new but still cheap as well!

Cheers Tobi

Thanks. i think ive decided against the palmer.  The burton se7en has been confirmed as a 148.5 so it is out of the running.
however, i found a 164 K2, unknown model/year, pictures found here: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/spo/2384682939.html
I think that it is now between the K2 and the burton custom. I meant Burton custom 172 not burton classic. my bad

Well 172 is really huge so for freeriding this might be still okay but it’s most probably not suited for anything else.
I’m totally not a person who likes buying used boards so I’m probably not the best person to talk to you about this but I see your point: 75 quid for the K2- if it sucks, just trash it.

Cheers and good luck

I understand that 172 would generally be way to big for freestyle. However frostyrider says i should be on a 166 which is my current board anyways. I’d say that the best conditioned board is defienily the burton custom, which is 172. My question, is that 6 cm that big of a diference when it comes to freestyling? i havn done much in the terrain park, but i do plan to this next season…

Yes 6cms is definitely a lot of length when it comes to freestyle, particularly if the 166 was matched as an all mountain snowboard. As Tobi said, the 172 would make a good freeride board for point and shoot snowboarding in pow and charging down groomers, but 172 will feel pretty ungainly for learning to freestyle. I’d probably sit tight until something a bit more suitable comes along.

Okay thanks. I think I’m gonna not go for the customized any more. the K2 is still in the running because i think im going to check it out soon. The model/year is unknown but if its in solid condition i feel like 75$ has be worth it :D

ill post pics to see if anyone knows the model:
