Im looking for a new intermediate park board, this is really my 3rd year of riding and im looking to start hitting the park alot more and progressing my skills on small-medium jumps and on jibs. I would still like a board I can take up to Mt.Baker or the top of Alpental and not lose out on being able to ride the pow every now and then.

I’m about 5’6 and 130 lbs and my boot size is around 9.5 US

Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

i’ve been looking at alot of different companies and it seems everywhere i look there are interesting options. im intrigued by getting a board with rocker but im not against camber either. the boards that have really got my attention are the Stpechild chi-borg, and the corparate, YES. either 149 or 154, rome artifact 1985, ride machete, k2 parkstar.

if you could kind of give me some advice about these boards and help me narrow down my choices that would be awesome, thanks.

Hi WAstateshredder,

I think you’re thinking along the right lines. Rocker is definitely going to give you the versitity you’re looking for. I think the YES 154 is going to be a spot on board for hitting the park up and riding Baker Pow. Having camber between the feet will also help you in the crud, left a week after pow at Baker. Another board worth looking at is the Rossignol Angus 153.. these boards are cranking. Great carving, amazing flying off kickers and buttert too.. check Tom’s review which I’ll be posting on the site this weekend. If you’re more keen on the park and like lazy jibbing style, then the Parkstar might be more your thing, I really liked this board and the fact that it’s not fully rockered (only rockered 10 cm-ish before the start and end of the effective edge) it can ride most conditions pretty well. If you want an inbetween the board, check out the Signal Omni 152… this board is like the YES, but quite a bit softer.

Being a WA state shredder you should also check out the Lib Skate Banana and GNU Park Pickle… you’ll like these decks and the factory is on your doorstep.

All those boards are going to kill it. Be sure to check Tom’s review of the Rossi Angus this Sunday before you make your decision. I’m gathering he loved it.

Hope that helps, just holla if you want to bounce some ideas around.

Yeah Im really liking what I hear about the YES boards, it really seems like they are putting tons of quality into their boards and pushing them out at a reasonable price. I’m really leaning towards the YES but I also wanted to know what you guys thought about the Step Child Chi-Borg. from what ive read it seems like a really fun board to ride and interests me.

Also wanted to say the site is sick and im finding myself addicted to checking it out while im in class at school lol. keep it up you guys are doing great stuff.

Oh man, I don’t want to be responsible for anyone failing their exams! But glad the site keeps you entertained in those dull moments when the worlds most powerful coffee can’t keep you awake. If only I’d discovered Coffee at school.

Good call on the Stepchild. I had so much fun with the Chi Borg.. I just felt at one with it immidiately… the way of the ninja! If you like jibbing and piste bashing (just jibbing and bonking around the groomers) this board is the ultimate. I never felt out of control or like th board was trying to buck me off. Really nice in the mini shred too, and I’m sure it’d step up to the bigger jumps too.

Hey so I have decided to get a YES but im not sure on what size to get. im looking at either the 149 or the 154, i have heard that the 149 is very maneuverable and good for the park and surprisingly stable. and i have heard that the 154 is actually pretty easy to ride and not to different from the 149. I currently ride a 151 and that seems to be the perfect size because im pretty small only 5’7” and 140 pounds. I want to make sure i get a board that i will be able to throw around of jumps, butter around, and control easily but still be wide enough for my size 9.5 US boots. if you could give me some input that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Tyler

Ok so I have weight limits of 110 to 150 lbs for the 149 and 120 to 175lbs on the 154cm. Which means you fit both boards weight wise. i just think at 24.6cm the 149 is going to be too narrow for your feet. Do you think you’ll get an opportunity to ride them?

no i wont but that info actually helps alot i was leaning towards the 154 so i think im going to go with that because i feel like the 149 might be more jib oriented than all around and i think the 154 will let me jib around and hit the whole mountain more efficiently.

Thanks for all the help again, this is by far the most informative site ive ever come across when it gomes to snowboard gear keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Tyler

Yeah I thought the 154 was going to make more sense… good shout, that board’s going to rip!

Thanks for the compliments on the site, but be warned, 2011 is going to be even better!

Yeah they come with a factory wax… but I’d always give a new board a good wax, first wax tends to get drawn out of a new board really quickly.
