I’m eyeing up new boards at the moment and wondered if any of you could help? Seems like a friendly and informed bunch around here from what I’ve seen!
I’m a pretty advanced rider who loves to ride big mountian steeps with medium drops, but also burns around groomers and takes a run or two through the park when the mood takes me. I do like to ride the hill like a natural skate park though, finding natural hits, drops and spinning about the place.
I’ve found a Jones Flagship in town (Banff, Canada) which I like a lot, largely down to the guys attitude to riding and running a snowboarding company in general. I wonder though, is the Jones Mountain Twin the better board for me??? These boards are hard to come by and the shop only has the Flagship left.
I understand the Flagship is directional, but has quite a mellow taper (only 2 mm thinner at the tail I think). Anyone know how much that’ll affect my riding? I do like to ride, and land switch, but wonder if I could get away with it, or should I just wait and get next years Mountain Twin, or buy another twin board (also looking at the Ride Society or Capital Indoor Survival)? I’m a one board kind of guy and know the Flagship is going to rock the big steeps and drops, but do you think I’ll enjoy using it for jibbing/spinning around the hill too?
Currently I ride and Atomic Alibi which is a twin all mountain board that’s been a great board for me. Comments from anyone who has ridden any of the Jones boards, or has made a similar switch from a twin tip to directional board for similar riding would be a great help :) Thanks in advance.

Hi Calder,
I think you’ve answered your own question. Although the Flagship has very little taper it is pretty heavily set-back, the tail is considerably shorter than the nose. If you want to ride your new purchase more like Jake Blauvelt and Mark Landvick than Jeremey Jones and Xavier De Le Rue I would deffinitely suggest waiting until you can get one of next seasons Mountain Twins. Also have you see next year’s Mountain Twin? It looks amazing! The Flagship will own the backcountry but it’s not designed for switch landings.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your advice.
I guess I do know that the Mountain Twin is overall probably the better board for me. Wish I could afford both!!!! Or maybe I’ll try and find a deal on a cheap twin and buy the Flagship for the big mountain stuff. I do like to have one board for everything though.
Haven’t seen next years Jones Boards at all but will have a look. When do you think they’ll start showing up in the shops? I was hoping to get something new to ride out the last month of the season here (gutted they don’t have any Mountain Twins left in stock) but guess I can wait, looks like these boards would be worth it.
