Hello,
I recently started snowboarding after buying a snowboard set for 150$, but now I’m looking for another board suited to my level. My stats are man, 170cm, 150lbs and 9.5 US boots. I should clarify that I live in Montreal, Canada and that I am looking for a board for the mountain trails only, no parks or half-pipe whatsoever. I want to be able to ride the mountain on all types conditions, from powder to icy conditions.
I checked out the “Board Finder” on the Burton website, put in my stats they suggested the Sweet Talker. However, after reading some reviews online, they noticed that the board can’t hold up with ice.
What board should I get then ? I am looking more into the Burton Custom, or Custom Flying V. I don’t necessarily want a Burton, but I don’t have as much selection brand in Canada compared to the US.
thanks for your help ! Looking forward to your opinion.

Oh, I just saw sweet talker… sorry, wrong forum.
On Burton boards I would personally stick to the cambered boards… the Supermodel, Custom and Process all come in camber (or cambered versions). I found the flying-V and V-rocker profiles to be a bit more washy then I would have liked when I demo’d them earlier this year.

took me a moment to realize what Steve was talking about, but once i did, LOL! =)
Steve, what do you mean by “washy” about the custom flying v? Not too good on any particular thing, but decent on many things? Sort of like a jack-of-all-trade board for many things?
I myself am looking at the custom flying v, but heard from rich that the 2012 will have a different core and may be a bit improved. it’s the same core as the custom flying v squeezebox.

Glad someone got it… have to liven up this place. :)
Washy = not stable. I’m a fan of flat or camber between the bindings in terms of rocker setups I find… pure reverse camber or rockered between the bindings setups tend to feel unstable at higher speeds and poor conditions (hard pack and ice).
I’ve heard of the squeezebox core, supposed to maximize the reverse camber profile… other then that I don’t know much else about it.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for your advice, i’ll definitely take your advice and get a cambered board now, seems to be that everyone is in agreement that the flying V is not great on washy conditions.
thanks for everyone’s help, greatly appreciated.

Hey,
I am talking your advice, and I am looking into the Custom X 2010 Burton board. Do you think it’s a good board considering what I am looking for ? Should I wait for the 2012 board ?
Thanks !
