Hi guys,

I just started snowboarding this year; I’ve been out about five times and I’d like to purchase some gear.  I’ve been looking at the K2 Lunatique 138 and the Burton Lux V-Rocker 136.  I’m 5’2” 110lbs, size 5 or 6 feet, depending on style.  I’ll want the board for mostly groomed trails and a few jumps here and there, nothing competitive.  Suggestions?

Welcome Rachael,

Out of those two my nod would go to the K2 Lunatique.  I’ve ridden boards from K2 and Burton that have the All-Terrain Rocker (K2) and the V-Rocker (Burton) and think the K2 profile is more versatile for all over the mountain.  The V-Rocker can get sketchy once you get your speed up or if the conditions aren’t great (ice, hard packed snow).

That’s great thanks!  I was leaning towards that one so this just seals the deal!  Do you think it would be a good board to learn on?  I can link turns, I’ve taken a few tiny jumps and boxes, haven’t had any huge yard sales, but I’m looking for something that can take me a few steps further, but still be fun when I reach the intermediate level.  Right now, I’m working on pushing less snow; I tend to do that to slow myself down when I feel like I’m going too fast instead of just stopping and starting over with a nice carve.  Also, do you think the 138 length is a good length for me?  The rental boards I’ve been using have ranged from 130 to 134 so I don’t want to go much bigger than the 134 I got used to.  Again I’m 5’2” 110lbs size 5-6 shoe (women’s of course).

Thanks!

Rachael

I’m sure it will help you progress in many areas of riding…  it’s profile lends itself to being usable in the park as well as over the mountain.

Given your weight the 138 is the way to go…  the extra 4cm on that type of board you won’t notice much.

Perfect; that’s exactly what I’m looking for.  Thanks so much for your help!
