First of all, props to this site, love the board reviews and the news features. I’m really enjoying the coverage of ISPO right now.
I’m very seriously considering buying the Jdub but I’m undecided whether to get the 154 or 158. I’m 70kg & 177cm (or 154 & 5’9” imperial)
Height 177cm (5’9”)
Weight 70 kg (154.3 lb)
This is my first board to own, and I’ve usually had rentals in 156, leaving me square in the middle of 154 & 158.
I guess my riding style would be All Mountain Freestyle. When I’m in the park it’s pipe & kickers, otherwise I’m on-piste or searching for powder or tree runs, but pipe is probably my favourite. I’m not really big on jibbing. I am kind of leaning toward the 154, but I think I’ll be wanting to eventually start going proper back country, will the 154 be a bit short for me or should I go for it?

It’s a difficult one. I ride a 158 JDub, but it’s the first JDUB and it’s stiff and has a standard camber profile. My weight and height are almost exactly the same as yours. I ride the 158 on hard piste days and in the pipe, it’s also nice and poppy for bigger jumps, but for smaller features, forget it, it’s too much of a beast! From what Mikee was saying the new Jdub is a little softer than he was expecting as the early rise tips made quite a difference. My cambered JDub is also like a lead weight in powder, I beleive the new profile is going to improve that significantly. If you want a board for carving hard, fire-ing up pipe walls and tearing up the pow the 158 is the right choice. If you want a bit more of a playful board, I’d probably look at other options as 154 is going to be a little too small.

Thanks for the wisdom Rich, and yeah that 09/10 Jdub’s a very different looking machine!
I’m mainly in this quandary as my 1st choice was a Jones Montain Twin 155 which sold out, second choice was Mervin’s Travis Rice 157, but the UPS guy ‘left it at the door’ and they got stolen.
Hrm, maybe I’ll keep shopping around. Looking forward to more ISPO!
