Me.
40s,
5’7”
175lbs
ex skier, so I know my mountains just suck on a board.
no park, just baby jumps . like dicking around the greens and blues showing off my super limited tricks and thinking I am super cool.
Been through a few boards and struggling to find my one.
Had a Burton clash, 155, great board to learn the ropes but felt i need to move on.
Had the Sierra Reverse crew 155, kind of sucked, fun but unstable and useless higher up the mountain’‘’
Currently have an 2011 Arbor Draft 158.8 , lots of fun , but either me, it or the combo of the two ends with me struggling in the steeper sections . I even bought it a bit bigger to give me that extra stability in fast turns.
I am not fully sure my style works on a full bore reverse camber boards. and even with the grip tech I feel like the Draft rides small on hard pack.
I miss those hard turns, where you throw the board about and trust it hold you.
So , would the Typo or Omni be the answer? And if so what size?
I would like to go low like 156, but dont want to find myself sliding out , when chasing the camber kids down the dodgy bits…
small is good, but not so small that my lardy butt wipes out when pushing.
I an happy to take whatever input you got…

I’ve never ridden the Typo, but just got the YES Great Dudes board and it’s been great on groomers for me, stable, but playful, maybe a tad soft for my taste, but overall on groomers it seems great. If I go into deep pow it’s another story, but I’m not used to reverse camber/camrock. I would think that if you don’t want to slide out and really rail your turns a stiffer board would be the answer to get to the 156 mark. See what others have to say, hope I helped a least a little.

thanks meatball.
about what do you weigh and what kind of boarder are you?
I was a little concerned the dudes would be too advanced for me, but if its soft and you think an low level intermediate could ride it and have fun??

Yo Oddman!
I’m about 185 lbs and 6’2” and ride the 162 dudes board. I’m coming off a Jones Flagship, much stiffer so the YES seems soft to me, but what’s soft to me might not be soft to someone else. It also could be the rocker in the tail and nose that make me think it’s softer.
I love tree runs when there’s good snow, and hitting the smaller jump lines. I surf so I love making hard slashes where I can on the mountain, and the Dudes does it. I do feel the board flex under me, but it’s just about right on the hard stuff, soft and deep though I feel it flexes too much, but once again I think that’s due to my technique and the rocker. The Asym side cuts are pretty cool. Heel side you can turn on dime, it’s noticeable while riding, which I think only comes on the Dudes. I also like to hit more advanced runs, and haul ass. I like tech stuff, tight turns, small drops(really small, no big 15’ or 20’ drops) more like 2 or 4’ and will only do that stuff in Pow. The Dudes has ultimate grip, some say it does nothing, I think it helps! If you’re sticking on greens and blues and want good edge control Mervin(LIB and GNU) might be worth looking at, their C2 BTX tech is pretty cool, I just don’t like the intense Magnatraction. Bataleon makes some stuff that’s great if you’re catching edges a lot. My Goliath kills it on greens and blues, for me once I get it going on a hardpacked diamond and straight line it, it begins to suck and get washy, but I think that’s due to the stiffness, it’s med-soft.
Dogfunk.com has some reviews on the Typo, looks pretty sweet. Check it out;)
See what others have to say, the dudes on here know their stuff!

:)
I have been riding super soft boards this year nothing over a 3 out 10.
So the dudes might seem a little stiff to me. perhaps i will get lucky and pick one up cheap to try it out.
I guess i still need to figure out how small I can go, on an Omni or Typo.

You could pick up either boards around the 156 mark and you’d probably find they offer you much more stability than the Draft 158, that this is crazy soft. You might also want to check out the Amplid Dopamine 156. I rode this board 2 days ago and I think I’m probably going to recommend it to everyone looking for a solid park jib board, Oft between the bindings makes it easy to pop and press, a nice tigh sidecut makes it responsive and lively, the WDT core keeps it damp and stable on choppy snow and the firmer nose and tail mean it doesn’t feel like a noodle. You can land offf centre, get your weight right over presses and pop high the Dopamine is soft where it needs to be a firmer where you want it to be…. I thoroughly recommend it.

Sorry to hijack your thread Oddman, but I find myself in exactly the same situation as Meatball.
I love my flagship for powder and straight lining it but if there is no powder it can get a bit limiting. I was thinking for a second board for no pow days and was looking into the dudes for playing around the slopes, small jumps, a bit of pipe. I also surf so I slash all the time too. I m even the same height/weight. This is strange.
I see you like the dudes a lot in the groomers.
How stiff would you say it is 1-10?
Is it stable at speed?
Thanks meatball, and oddman sorry again.

Hi Etsi,
That’s pretty crazy you’re basically my twin,LOL.
Since the board is rockered in the tip and tail it’s softer there, 4 or 5 out of 10, middle where theres camber is about a 6-7. It’s stable at speed, not like the Jones, haha, but it holds it’s own, does get a little floppy on the noes when flying. It’s good for an all mountain weapon, do everything board. If you don’t like the YES for one reason or another, it’s too narrow or you something else, which is my only issue, wish it was a tad wider, than maybe look at these boards: Lib Dark Series, NS Heritage or SL/Legacy, Bataleon Jam or Riot, or one of the others that some have recommended. I don’t like intense magnatraction, so the Lando or Lynn from LIB might be a good choice too if you don’t like it too. Hope I helped, feel free to ask any other questions:)

Yeah Meatball, this coincidence is really funny, but it certainly makes my life a lot easier :) Thanx a lot for your feedback, its what I was looking for. I m 6’3’’ and 175 lbs and have the 163w flagship.
The dudes certainly is too narrow for my US12 boots. But I saw that next year’s the beauties, also comes in wide at 160 and 163, so i think i ll wait for that. I dont expect it to be as stable at speed as the jones. The nose of the flagship also starts vibrating at some point but it never felt annoying. Something more playful and pressable is certainly welcome.
The asym edges are pretty cool indeed. Such an old-school tech revival. I remember trying out a burton asym air in 1994. Its a shame they use ultimate grip instead of mellow mag though, it works very well.
Never had more than 1 board before, but it looks like what i m looking for.
Thanx again for all the info.
