Hi guys,

Stuart’s after a board that will offer a strong intermediate a board that’s more playful than the Shogun but that offers more grip than the Burton Sherlock.

Hi all i’m unexpectledly in the market for a new board after breaking my nitro shogun 160 while on hol last week i think from landing too hard off a jump, I’m 5’7” 180lbs and been riding for 8 yrs so class myself as decent intermediate, I ride all mountain, I’m looking for a board that will be a bit more fun than the shogun, i love to ride fast and carve well, but I’m trying more on slope jibbing plus the odd jump in the park, powder if i can get it! so need a solid all rounder with the emphysis on fun rather than outride speed machine! i spoke to a few sales staff and managed to test a burton sherlock 157 flying V and they also mentioned a skate banana (none to test) i didnt really take to the flying v as it kept slipping away from me on the hard pan icy patchy snow i was having to put up with, i tried widening my stance to try and flatten the board out but it didnt help, plus i can get a bit lazy in the afternoon!! i rode with a rep who had just got an endeavour and said it was so good for the very little he paid, i’ve also read up about the lib tech set up, I’m thinking 156-158 as want something shorter for ease of tricks but dont want to sink in pow, heading my shopping list are lib tech travis rice, skate banana, never summer SL or evo , GNU carbon credit or Danny Kass, endeavor guerilla or RC, Please help out with any comments as my heads spinning from all this new technology and just dont have test centres for these in the UK. thanks in advance stuart

First things to mention is that the Shogun was a stiff board so nearly any board you schoose will be more playful. Second thing to mention is that on hard snow the Sherlock is a slippery beast so don’t let that put you off boards with a rocker/hybrid profile. I’m sure the Sherlock rips in fresh but the side effects and short sidecut mean that too much of your weight runs through the start and end of the effective edge making it slip out on hard icy snow.

All the choices that you’ve put forward are suitable, I was just wondering if you liked the softer flex of the Sherlock or if you wanted something a touch firmer. Also, how much do you want to spend and what is your boot size?

Riding a Rossi OneMagtek at the mo.  Loads of edgehold with Magnatraction, rocker camber combo (virtually flat between the bindings) plenty of pop, super quick base…..  I love it.
