i’m thinking of a ns evo or the yes typo. two different tech. which do you think is better suited for a beginner? don’t really know what style of riding i like yet. just trying to learn and pick up different things.
also which size should i be looking at? i’m 5’8” and 170-180 lbs. will a 158/159 be fine? or should i go smaller?
thanks

The board size depends on the board shape / camber and what youre planning on using it for and on the board design. If you are planning on hitting the park mainly then youd prolly want a shorter board than if you are going for a speed/carving all mountain style.
Im 6’2’’ 195lb US12, my all mountain / back country board is a standard cambered directional 164w and my freestyle/ jib board is a 158w. It all depends on the board, 5 years ago my all mountain was a 168 and now theyve got 158s that can do just as well.
Id really recommend demoing a few boards if possible, its worth throwing down some money bc you can read reviews all day long but without trying it out its hard to know what works for you. Also if you pay the demo fee you can usually switch out the same board for a diff size w/o an extra fee.
As far as ns vs yes I really cant help ya bc i havent tried out any of their gear, happy hunting.

I’d probably say that the YES camrock profile is narrowly better for beginners. The tips are raised a little higher and aren’t anywhere near the snow. The board floats effortlessly in pow and you’ll find the board nimble and the tips a touch more forgiving.
If you’re a complete beginner demo-ing might not help, but if you’ve mastered your linked turns there’s no harm in giving some boards a whirl before you buy.
