Hi,

I’m snowboarding for 2 years now and have developed basic abilities so far. This season I’ve decided to get an own board. I’m not doing park, only piste and don’t ride overly aggressive. Having visited a few shops by now, I thought a Bataleon board with the Triple Base Technology sounds like a good choice.

Now the dealer I was talking to has strongly recommended me the Violenza, problem is I really HATE the graphics and the board is expensive and I would ride it for few years.. hmmmm

Then he said I could also take the Distortia which I definitely prefer visually.

I spent the entire day now researching about those 2 boards, and from the manufacturers description the Violenza sounds suitable. I’m not sure about the Distortia now as in the review on your page it says “the Distortia is the perfect board to take experienced female snowboarders to park riding Nirvana” which is not really my profile :p

...and I came across the Fun Kink 2011 which I also quite like, and it says it’s a good choice for beginners and ‘seasoned shredders’ alike and “it’s just a board to have fun with”.

I’m TOTALLY confused now what to do :-) The Fun Kink is not specifically a female board - does it make such a big difference if I take it in the right size though? Is the Violenza fundamentally different from this one or will make me progress incredibly much better?

Does anyone have experience with any of those 3 boards? I would be really grateful about any advice because I don’t want to buy the wrong board really… :-)

Thanks,

Kat

Hi Kat,

Women’s boards are usually built with a slightly softer flex and a narrower waist. Before I can help you, it would be helpful if you could list your height, weight and boot size.

Hi Rich,

True, I completely forgot about that :p

I’m 5 ft 5 tall, weight 132 lb, shoe size 6.5 (UK) 7 (USA).

Many thanks,

Kat

Looking at your foot size, weight and height, I believe the Fun Kink 149 would be a good choice for you. The flex is almost identical to that on the Violenza… they are effectively the same board. With a waist of 24.2cm it won’t be too wide. And actually looking at the fibre glass arrangement in the Distortia I woulld say that your ability would pretty quickly catch up with the board… the flex isn’t particularly stiff, just a bit firmer at the tip and tail thanks to carbon reiforcement for pop, so you could ride the 147 or 151 of that too.

Thanks for your advice so far! So i take from it that there’s not too much difference in the 3 boards which is really helpful as the manufacturer’s description makes it dificult to compare them ;-)
regarding the lenghth - would it have an effect on the riding? Is the 151 slower compared to the 147?
Thanks again!

Longer boards are more stable at speed but a little less agile in the park. It’s upto you, if you want to ride jumps go a bit smaller. If you want to charge around the pistes and hit some powder go a bit longer.
