Ok so I have done months of research and need help making the final decision in boards so I found that I like the never summer legacy-r, and the lib tech dark series. I like magna traction of the lib tech but the never summer has a 3 year warranty and Is a little cheaper and if I am going to spent over 500 on a snow board I don’t want a board to crap out after 1 or 2 seasons. So I guess the real question is “ is magna traction that much better I really like the idea of better grip and live in Portland so harder snow and ice happens more that I would like so help me out guys. Witch board is better

I am looking for:
[ x ] Board
[ ] Binding
[ ] regular straps
[ ] fast-entry system (Flow/Cinch/..)
[ ] Boots
[ ] Other

Measurements:
Body height: 73in 6’1
Weight: 200 lbs
Shoe size: 11.5 US

Riding level:
[ ] Beginner
[ x ] Intermediate
[ ] Advanced
[ ] Expert

Riding style: (multiple selections allowed)
[ x] Piste [ 55 ] %
[ x ] Powder [ as much as possible but max of 40] %
[ ] Park [ 5 ] %
[ ] Rails [ ] %

Special requests: (free text or keywords) I had my mind made up on the never summer, but magna traction really appeals to me, the only thing keeping me form advancing to the next skill level is when I get on steep packed or groomed snow I fall from loosing and edge or chatter during turns. if you need any more information from me please let me know i tried to be as thurough as possible but i could have easily missed something

Price Limit: [ ] € / [ ] $

Hey there Mr. handsumrob, welcome to the snowboard-review forums!

Rich and many others think that Magnatraction is a great thing which really improves the edgehold of a board.
So there are no worries that you pay more for a useless tech in this case!

And although the NeverSummer has a really great deal with it’s 3-year-warranty, I never heard about LibTech decks crashing within a season or two.. You definitly buy quality work there, too.

I would say that if you ride on hardpack mainly; get the LibTech with MagnaTraction because other than that, they both are great decks!

Hi Hadsumrob… nice name!

Yeah my man Zoryfl is right, Magnetraction is definitely a positive to add to any board, helps with grip on ice for sure… although I wouldn’t go as far as to say it turns ice into powder! One thing I’d mention is that the Darkseries has a reputation of being a little bit of an animal, where as the NS SLR is firm ride but not a monster. If your only interested in riding hard and fast then the Dark series is a winner. Want to take it slightly easier, then hit up the NS. Another board i’d check out would be the Rossignol One, ok so it’s cambered which means it doesn’t have the float benefits of reverse camber, but the 161mW would be the perfect width for your feet at 26.2 cm, it has magnetraction and it kills general mountain slaying, with carbon and kevlar reinforcement and a superfast 4400 grade sintered base. Xavier de le Rue just won the last leg of the FIS boardercross world circuit at Teluride on a Rossi One, and it’s progressive enough for intermediates too… oh and a great price. Between the SLR and the Dark Series, I think on this occassion, the SLR is more suited to your level, however, if your riding style is aggressive and your confident on stiffer rides and want a board that’ll dominate on any snow condition then the Dark Series might be the board. SLR will be more Progressive for learning… Dark Series is a hard charger if you’re confident you can tame it.

Yeah I looked at the rossignol j dub and it’s still a vallid choice, I really wish the never summer legacy came with magna traction( I really like the idea or rocker and camber) that would be my ideal board is there any thing in the lib tech line that would be a little more mild than the dark series that comes in wide and between 160 164 mm. And why would u say the one over the jdub I don’t know much about the one

As the Jdub is more of a stiff beast, the One is better suited for intermediate riders being less aggressive, helping you to advance your skills, I’d say.
The Jdub is more like in the league of the Darkseries and the One more alike to to the Legacy, concerning stiffness (correct me if I’m wrong here..).

You could wait ‘til next season when YES will be bringing out a more comprehensive range of boards, that will cater for a rider with your stats, and Jeremy Jones will have his new range on the market. With these two brands you’ll find camrock (half rocker, half camber) and ultimate grip which is Nidecker’s version of Magnetraction.

It’s just a thought but you’ll be getting the best of both worlds.

I’d have a look at the Travis Rice C2 BTX 161.5. A little softer than the Dark Series, 26cm waist so you shouldn’t have any problems with overhang and I love the graphics and the pointy ends.. definitely a stand-out look. Oh and it’s got Magnetraction. I rode the blunted Travis Rice and I loved it, responsive and lively without being catchy, nice board!... check it out.. link below:

Afraid I’m not super-up on my Never Summer technologies… NS boards are quite rare in the UK. Although I did have a ride of the EVO-R at the board test. Might be worth checking out the Shay boarders blog. www.shayboarder.com. She rides a lot of NS boards so she knows the technology very well.
