hi guys, I am 185 lbs 5’11. I would say i’m an advanced beginner. I have decided on the raygun or turbo dream for my first board purchase.  would you say that the raygun is a little softer and more forgiving. maybe more suitable to my level. and finally what length would you recommend? I have typically ridden around a 155 when hiring and I think the shorter boards are maybe easier to turn. can I get away with the 156 raygun, or should I step up to the 159. what do you think?

I would suggest going with a 159 for your height and weight. Hire boards are usually heavier and less responsive than a tuned board you’ve chosen yourself.

The Raygun is a soft manageable board designed to help beginners. The Turbo Dream is a medium stiffness all mountain freestyle board that is so easy to ride even a beginner would get along with it. I’d recommend both, but if you want to save some pennies you won’t out grow the raygun for a while.

THanks very much for the reply.

One final query on the new Ride Manic. Is this up there with the raygun?

For sure. It has a less pronounced rocker, a slightly stiffer flex and a slight set back stance. It sounds like a mide point between the TD and the Raygun… a bit more all mountain than the Raygun.

hi again, the raygun also has a setback stance I see. mmm decisions decisions.  would you say the raygun was the better board? I see it got a goodwood award. quite fancy the slightly shorter manic though…

They’re pretty similar boards particularly as K2 and Ride are both owned by K2 Sports and I’m going on what Mikee our tester has said as opposed to riding them myself. Personally I’d probably opt for the Raygun as I’m not the worlds biggest fan of urethane sidewalls.
