Hi I am going to buy a replacement setup in the next couple of weeks. I only get to board for maybe 2 weeks a year max so need a board that can cope with varied conditions. I am mainly into steaming down groomers so am looking for a very stable high speed board, I am not into park riding just the occasional kicker. I am cosidering the following boards:
Burton Custom X
K2 Turbo Dream
K2 Zero
Endeavour NXT
Bataleon Undisputed
Nidecker Legacy
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Rich will help you more on this but out of your choices the Custom X and Undisputed probably be a good choice for high speed and carving. I also suggest Never Summer Raptor.

Thanks for that. I think I may just be able to push the budget up to go for a Burton T6 now, so I have added that to the contenders!!

Yeah I’m in complete agreement with Rico, the only way to go for the kind of board you want is camber. It really is the best option for edge hold on hardpack and ice. I really liked the Undisputed, it had a nice mellow sidecut for charging in long carves and it rolled between edges seamlessly on tighter terrain, all in an awsome deck… but not on the same level as the Custom X. I was suprised by how much I enjoyed riding the Custom X. Softer than the undisputed, less directional and a deeper sidecut, but this board ripped through carves like nothing I have ever ridden… and it’s more twin-like shape means you’ll be able to take it off jumps no probs, Freddi K and Peru Pitonen seem to do ok in the park on the Custom X. I’m afraid I haven’t ridden the cambered Endeavor Next Series but I was impressed by the livelines of the Guerilla. Another board I would check out which is in a very similar vein to the Custom X but a little less obvious is the Amplid UNW8. Based on a the same shape as the all mountain Paradigama it’s tuned up to nail carves and iffer unbeatable response. Hopefully I’ll be testing it in the next few weeks:) The Bonus with the Amplid being that you aren’t stuck with having to buy ICS system bindings.

Thanks for your advice.
I have made a decision to go with the Amplid UNW8! I hadn’t considered it before but it sounds like a great board and I managed to get a 2010 model for half price direct from Amplid in Germany!
Cant wait to try it out.
Will let you know how I get on!

Hi,
I didn’t think that I should start a new thread as my situations is much the same, in that I’m replacing a really old set up but am unsure as to which board to turn too.
I used to ride a 2003 K2 Satellite, which was great to learn on but as I’ve progressed I’ve realised I need to upgrade, I found it too ‘sketchy’ for my liking at high speed and not that forgiving in the park. I took a break from snowboarding for a few years due to College and me being totally skint and it seems that in this intervening time a whole shed load of boards have appeared on the market.
Me (6ft, 76-81kg) and what I’ve been looking at: Well I guess I am pretty much an all rounder, I love hooning it down nice groomers but then I also like having a go in the woods and off piste, not into pipe much but am wanting to start progressing in the park, hitting bigger kickers/ tabletops/ rails etc
So far I’ve been looking at:
Bataleon Goliath
K2 Turbo Dream (at max end of my budget)
Salomon Grip
K2 Raygun
Yes Typo
Opinions/ advice anybody?
Cheers
J

For Footoyn:
I would say Burton Custom X from your list.
If you want a Nidecker board I would go for Platinum instead.
I think the board should have camber.
My strongest riding skills is speed and freeride plus carving.
This year I am using a Rossi One. It has some camber (1,5 mm), but also early rised tip and tail. And Magne Tracktion. I think it works really well in high speed.. Having that said I would also say that I took the Rossi One beacuse I wan´t to take my riding in a slighly different direction this year.
In summary: there are a lot of boards for groom slaying. Rossi One is one of them. Burton Custom X or the Platinum is another option. If I wanted to go in my high speed direction I would have bought the Nidecker Platinum, Salomon Burner or Volkl Coal instead.
For J:s question:
I would say K2 TurboDream. Or the Rossi One. I had the chance to test a friends Turbo Dream and it´s not quite the charger that Rossi is. Then again: it don´t think Rossi is a board for the rails. No no. My level in the park is steady 180`s and unsteady 360´s. For me the stable One is perfect. I will have confidence for more and more airtime with this board. Perfect for me who only want to hit the park in order to be keep my air awaernes fresch between the pow drops. And mabe stick a back country 360 of a rock later in the season. That you can do with the Turbo to. Off course. Rossi is mabe 80-100 euros less in price. And it comes in mid wide to.

Footoyn- Half price UNW8… Whhhatttt!!!! I’m so jealous. They’re good lads at Amplid, so it’s definitely a great brand to support. Although at half price they’re supporting you!
Jared- With foot size 11UK you are definitely going to need a wide or at the very least a mid wide board. Unfortunatley this means that your feet are too big for any of the YES boards… but if you like the idea of camber between teh feet and rocker at the nose and tail, the Rossi Angus 158mW will fit your requirements. I’m riding the 157 this year and it’s awsome, great on kickers, fine on rails (although a touch long… but it’s my all0mountain board), it carves great on pistes and grips fine on hardpack and in powder the flaot is amazing. You could also check out the Nitro Addict 156W which from all the review we’ve had on the site is a certified parlall-mountain bargain. If you want to save a bit of cash, have a look at the Ride Manic 158W, I’d also recommend checking out the Atomic Hatchet 156W, the pop-rocker profile is nice and mellow and makes riding pretty easy.

Cheers for the replies, really going to help out with my board choices. Off to the shops this weekend to check some out. Rossi looks like an pretty good choice, everyone seems to give great feedback for the Rossi One.
However I’m having trouble locating UK online dealers, does anyone know of any?

No. Not really. I would say snowboardasylum -or bargainboards.co.uk
Blue Tomato however have excellent service. My first Rossi One had a scratch on the base. Probably from transporting the board. I gave them (blue tomato) a call and DHL picked it up the following day and dealivered a new board to my office the day after. Great service! And they have free dealivery in EU for over 200 Euro orders.

MagnePange, Lifesaver! I know there was a euro company I just couldn’t find them anywhere. I was trying all the UK sites that I knew and none of the larger ones (TSA etc) even stock Rossi’s. However better news Rossi One ordered last night, really looking forward to checking it out!
Cheers

All I can say so far is that it looks awsome, I have not had the chance to ride it at all as work has been pretty manic, off to check out some indoor snow next week so will let you all know how it rides for me then. However its going to get its full experience beg of March…. off to Morzine/ Avoiraz for 8 days!
