Hi,
I’ve been reading and watching your reviews (I think they’re great by the way) and would like to make a request for you guys to write/make a review of the 2011 Burton Custom (camber) version. I saw you have a review of the Flying V version, but I’m currently in the snowboard market and am interested in the camber version. A review would be VERY helpful in me making my decision about this board.
Thanks

THanks for the compliments Funkyhog. Unfortunately I can’t see us being able to test a traditionally cambered Custom this year, we’ve already got a list of boards as long as my arm that people have requested and soon people will be wanting to know about next years boards.
I can definitely give you some pointers from riding the Custom X. The Custom shape is super smooth, the waist is pretty narrow so the board goes from edge-to-edge pretty seamlessly. In powder I didn’t have any problems with float when I rode the board at speed and switch was fine although I could definitely tell that the board is directional. In my opinion Frostbite edges work a lot better with Burton’s cambered boards, the difference in edge hold between the Supermodel that didn’t have Frostbite edges and the Custom X that did was really significant. The Custom uses a negative core profile which means the core thichness tapers off at the tips and is also thnnert between the bindings. This core profile makes boards a little easier to torque with your feet and less effort to pop. However it does mean the board doesn’t have the tosrional ridgidity of the Custom X which has a positive core profile, a constant core thickness between the bindings, so the Custom won’t rail carves quite like the Custom X.
If you’re looking for an all mountain board as happy in the park as it is carving down groomers and picking lines down steep freeride spots the Custom is a great choice. If you want edge hold and high speed performance over increased float and a touch more agility and butteryness then the cambered version is a better choice than the Flying V.

No problem at all.
Thanks very much for your little write-up of the Custom here, because, while it may not have been an official review, it was very helpful, especially the comparisons with the Flying V and the Custom X, two other possible boards. I think I’m going with the Custom :)
One more question though:
Speaking of next year’s boards that you mentioned, about what time of year do board manufacturers reveal their new series (in this case the 2012 boards)?
Thanks again

We’ll be looking at next year’s boards at ISPO in Munich at the beginning of February. We should have HD footage and photos of the boards we like by the middle of February.
