what can you tell me about Smokin snowboards!

has anyone ridden them and can give some info? do they feel lively or damp? what is the general build quality?

im looking at the pinner for a powder board, pintail and rocker looks like money and its fun to ride some smaller brands

Hi Blunder,

Yeah I rode the MIP at the Kaunertal board test, I’d have the review on the site, but we didn’t have any luck getting graphics and info off Smokin… maybe we’ll get some reviews up on the site next season.

I’ll concentrate on the build quality here as their pure park and jip ride isn’t going o ride anything like their freeride pinner. To be honest… it was just like your average snowboard, medium-light weight, base was a little slow but I think that’s because Nick forgot to wax it. The topsheet looked and felt like it might be a quite soft… Magnetraction was a nice little bonus! Feel wise, damp is definitely not what i’d put on the MIP, the tip and tail were really poppy, but between the bindings was a little slushy. My main thought was that the MIP felt a little unrefined, kinda raw if you know what I mean. With a freeride deck I’d want rubber damping which is what the Pinner has, but in my opinion Kevlar is quite important to the feel of a freeride board, it kind of damps the vibrations you get from riding fast, like a Rolls Royce. The massive plus for the Smokin boards is that they have a practically unbeatable 3 year warranty.. and their graphics are pretty unique unless you live in Mamouth.

So I bet I’ve been no help what-so-ever! In my opinion the MIP was great for what it was meant to do, i.e. riding park. The build quality wasn’t remarkable but then it does have a 3 year warranty so Smokin are confident their boards are durable. One things for sure, you’ll have to let me know how it rides!
