Hi
I’m a beginner who only started this year and still trying to learn the basics but absolutely loved every minute on the slope. because of the high rental cost, I have decided it might be cheaper (at least in the long run) to actually buy my own board & bindings, and hoping I can progress faster.
i’m 5’3 (162/3cm). 115lbs and US size 6.
There are currently 2 boards I am looking at
1) Burton Feather - 144cm (with the Burton Stiletto bindings)
2) Roxy Ally - 143cm or the 147cm
while i think the first option is probably the most ideal board for me at this point in time, i have read that people outgrow the Feather quite quickly. I would prefer to get a board that i can grow into, hence the Ally.
What are your take on this? (or are there boards out there that could solve both problems?)
I’m also seeking advice on bindings which suits the Ally.
Many thanks in advance for your help!!

Welcome.
The Feather is a soft, EZ-V shaped board… would definitely help you learn. Unless you come from a background of athletics you’ll probably have enough to chew on this season that the Feather would support you through the at times steep learning curve.
I do like Roxy boards however most models (unless it changed this season) do not have a full wrap metal edge. While it does keep weight down if someone like a retarded skier/boarder drives their ski/board into your tail while waiting for the chairlift you run the risk of opening up a gash to the sensitive wood core.
My two cents.

Hi, I currently ride the Burton Feather 144 with the Burton Stiletto bindings and I would say that the setup is really great for beginners. My board is an older version but has definitely looked after me on the mountain! If you are looking to progress quickly or ride very often you might outgrow it fast but its a great starter board.

Thanks icklepinkstar for your input. I think I’ll go for the feather with the Stiletto bindings. Is the 144cm a good size for me?
And with the bindings, i’m a US size 6 so I can fit both the small and the medium. Which one is the better one to get?

Unless you are still growing I would get the smallest binding you can get, snug = better.
