Hey,

Im looking for an agressive freeride snowboard, I mainly ride on groomed runs. I was wondering if anyone had some opinions on some snowboard suggestions. im currently looking at the 2011 prior mfr with a graphite base.

Hi Hoekstra

Prior MFR, now that is a beast! If you are interested in riding as fast as humany possible you’ve got your board. It also uses a hybrid camber with raised tips so you’ll have superfast edge to edge response in powder.

If it’s a point and shoot gun you are looking at, I can also recommend the Salomon Burner, Palmer Crown LE and Arbor A-Frame that you should check out, these boards tear appart the groomers, although the Burner has a really long sidecut so you litterealy set it on a line and go, if you’ve got time before you reach the bottom you can eat your lunch, do a crossword whatever you fancy really, it’s that stable. ALthough these boards are just straight camber so if you want something different stick with the MFR or have a look at the Rossignol Experience and Jones Flagship, great boards for riding at immense speeds on variable snow conditions rather than groomed runs.

Nice work with the MFR… prepare to get scared!

Boots and bindings are a tricky one, for me it’s all about fit. Try on as many boot brands as you possibly can. I went to my local shop Blue-Tomato with my girlfriends brother to get him some boots about a week ago. He tried on a set of 32 Prospects, Northwave SLs, Vans High Standards, a Burton Boot and a Salomon before we found some Deeluxe Boots that fit his ankles and foot shape. I hadn’t even thought about Deeluxe before but he loves them and even with a fresh pair of boots he had no foot pain. So try as many brands as you possibly can. If you want a firm responsive boot, check out the Salomon Malamute, Burton Ruler (or Driver X if you want uber stiff), Deeluxe Empire, Northwave Decade RM and Vans Cirro. These boards will give you the fastest edge to edge response and the least pain in long icy traverses.

Bindings wise, I like a medium to firm stiffness a 6-7/10 for riding everything. I bought a set of Drake Supersports at the start of the season and I’m blown away by how comfy and supportive they are, definitely check them out. Of course the union bindings you mentioned would be great as would something like the Rome Targas or if you want a stiffer flexing binding then the Salomon Calliber. Always check that the binding will accomodate the boot.

Hello out there,
Im looking for advice on buying an All-Mountain Board. What do you think about the Burton Process V-Rocker. I own the Machette and love it but buying a board for my bro who has only been riding for 3 seasons and wants a Burton All-Mountain. Is there a better Burton that you would suggest? He’s 5’10 180 Lbs. Please Help A Man Out?
Thanx,
Scott
