Hi there,
I’m a fairly advanced rider (when riding groomers it’s mostly blacks and double blacks)looking for a new board. I’m currently riding a 4 year old Burton Troop…I’ve improved A LOT since then and am now looking for a new board.

I’m looking for something FAST that’s great with all mountain. I’m on my college’s Ski and Ride team, so speed is definitely something I want. In addition, I am now riding primarily on the east coast, so it has to be able to hold an edge and do well with ice. I also love glades, so it should handle well in there. While I don’t do so much park stuff, I’m looking to do more this season, so it should handle fairly well in the park as well.

Any thoughts? I was looking at last year/the year before’s Burton Feelgood ES, but I hear that might be a tad to stiff if I want to be able to play around a little (although I hear it’s great with speed). I was also looking at this year’s Burton Fortress, but I’d rather get something from last year so it’s more afordable. I’m primarily familiar with Burton boards, so if anyone has any other suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate them!!

Oh, I’m 5’3”, 120 lbs.
Thanks!

Yeah it’s a difficult that one. A board that carves really hard and is dialed for groomers and speed isn’t going to be the best board to hit the park with… they’re kind of polar opposites really. I guess the best option would be to choose a mid flexing, directional cambered board but this won’t be as progressive in the park as a softer flexing reverse camber board… so bare that in mind. Looking at last years Burton range, that looks like the Burton Feelgood 149. I think ES would be ideal if it was the race aspect / freeride aspect you wanted to push or if you wanted to thrash the pipe… but for general park riding I think it’d be too stiff. The Feelgood is essentially the women’s version of the Custom.. a do it all board. You’ll need new bindings though as the Feelgood uses the ICS binding mounting system.
