Hey guys,

After some years of snowboarding I’ve decided it’s time to buy a decent board. I guess I’m sort of a freeride rider since I love doing anything all over the mountain so I need a board that’s capable of doing anything. The things I do most on the mountain are going into the powder if it’s there and doing some smaller jumps and the occasional run through the park, nothing too big though. But besides that I also have some friends that ski and sometimes I go with them charging down the mountain at high speeds. So I’m looking for a board that’s real fun all over the mountain but still is able to go real fast. I’m not a small guy with 1.85m(about 6 feet), 82kg(~181 Ibs). My boot size is EU43.5(US 10.5).

By searching through this site(which is great) and some others I’ve made this selection of two boards which I think will fit my needs. I’m hoping you guys could help me make my final choice or maybe come up with some other suggestions. I don’t have any chance to test any of the boards since I live in Holland but I’m confident that these are both great boards, I just need to know which is best, or which is best value for money. The price for both is pretty high, especially in Euro country, but I hope it will be worth the investment!

So what do you guys think, the Turbo dream or the custom? The only thing I’m worried about is that ,because of the rocker, they won’t be very stable at higher speeds and on harder/icy surfaces. It’s my first rocker board by the way but I think I will like the new ride. I also need new bindings but I haven’t really thought about that much. Thinking about the EST missions for the custom and the K2 Cinch system for the Turbo dream. For the size of the board I’m thinking something like 159.

Thanks in Advance,
Ward

Hi Ward, welcome to the SBR forums!
For information about bindings, check out our binding buying guide.

The TurboDream and the Flying-V are both pretty decent rides, I understand it’s quite hard for you to choose.
I’d say go for the TurboDream if you really are into riding the deep stuff. When riding mainly piste, you’d probably be better off with the Flying-V as the hybrid rocker provides you better edgehold in carves and a slightly firmer flex.

Cheers, Tobi

Ok, I guess both boards will be a huge improvement but the choice is tricky indeed. I really like to be in the deeper powdertiefschnee but usually there isn’t a lot of it so I mostly hang out on the piste. Maybe I’ll let the price be a factor in the decision since I think the Turbo Dream is slightly cheaper less expensive.

But what about the difference between the Custom and the Sherlock? The sherlock has a different base and hasn’t got the lightning bolts, but everything else seems pretty similar to me. Is the custom worth the extra 80 euro’s?

Also, could anyone tell me if the custom has significantly better grip on icier and harder pistes?

The Custom Flying V does feel a little bit livelier and maybe a touck more grippy than the Turbo Dream, but the Turbo Dream is a more relaxing board to ride and probably a bit more progressive as it almost works on autopilot and you can concentrate on throwing tricks.

I’m afraid I haven’t ridden the Sherlock so I can’t tell you thje difference between the Custom Flying V and Sherlock. I am planning to test it in the next month or so, so check back around the middle of December and I should have a video review on the site.

Hey guys,

Just bought the Custom. Got a good deal on it with the mission bindings and I believe I have a pretty decent set now! Thanks for your help here, I really had a hard time deciding which board too choose!
