Hi,
I’m about 165-170 lbs, but have big feet, US size 12, so looking at midwides. I’m considering the Rossi One MagTek 161mw or the Jones Mountain Twin 160mw. From looking at them in a store, the One has a bit more camber (the Mountain Twin has hardly any!!) and the Magne-Traction is more pronounced. How would you contrast the two for riding? Oh and I never hit the park if that matters. ;)
thanks!

Hi Eelpout,
That was exactly my observation too. I’ve been riding my new Rossi Angus for the last couple of weeks and the camber between the feet feels and and looks much more combered. This makes the Angus feel more planted on a flat base and a touch firmer in carves than my experience of the Jones Mountain Twin. To be honest I like both brands and both boards look great, but I just feel the Rossi Amptek board I rode was a little bit higher performance than the Mountain twin… saying that, I think the nose and tail of the Mountain Twin were slightly firmer than the Angus. Both great boards Angus edged slightly ahead for me and I’m afraid I haven’t ridden the One Mag. Another deck in that vein that is awsome id the APO BC Powder Rocker… that board rips hard!

What about the sizing? Do you think the One MagTek 161mw might be too stiff for 165-170 lbs.?
Size 12 boots really can get in the way when choosing boards. ;)
cheers.

Well depending on your height, you could always go for the 157.
That’s got enough width on it and it’s certainly long enough for park and groomer riding.
If you’re around the 6ft mark then I would thing the 161 would be spot on.

yep, 6 ft.
But… I just got a great deal on a clearance 2010 Rossi Experience (163w). Can’t wait for it to kick my butt in Tahoe in a few weeks. ;)

Hi,
I have the same issue - I’m considering the Rossignol One MagTek (153/156) or the Jones Mountain Twin (154/157).
I guess this tread is a bit old - so looking at the new 2013/2014 versions of these boards might result with a different recommendation.
I’m about 141 lbs, 5.4 ft tall, foot size 8.5 (US).
No parks, mainly European on-piste riding.
Thanks!

There is another option to consider. Rossignol offers a slightly softer version of the One Magtek called the Templar. It uses a “mellower” magnetraction called “5s” similar to what Jones/Nidecker has: only 3 shallow bumps between the feet, losing the other 2. It will have less bite than the One Mag. It’s also set back just a bit more for a little extra float in powder.
