This is a bit of a done subject but there’s still loads of debate as to whether BitchBoards is a valid snowboarding brand or in imposter in it for the money. From mine and Tom’s dealings with Alex, the brand owner, she comes across as a nice person who’s passionate about snowboarding, and someone who wants to offer a product to women who aren’t pushing the boundries of snowboarding but who want an easy and attractive board to go on holiday with. So I put it to you, what’s the problem with creating a brand that isn’t core, but isn’t trying to be? If BitchBoards appeals to a niche consumer surely that’s enough to validate the brand?

We’re trying to sort an interview with Alex at the minute so hopefully we’ll have something juicy for you, whether lover or hater, to get your teeth into in the next couple of weeks.

You’re right - this has been done to death.  It’s curious how a brand can get under the skin of some people, and, if I am honest something about it doesn’t sit right with me. It’s just a gut feeling.

Disclaimer, I am a a guy, but my girlfriend is a girl, but is often asking my advice on snowsports equipment.

There is an interesting blog entry over at Desert Snow - Desert Snow post - about it. There is an awful lot of pressure for brands to “be real” but most of these same riders probably spent a number of years on commercial boards from Burton et al before smaller brands started to spring up to offer them the chance of “being real”.

BitchBoards, on the face of it, seem to offer relatively standard (read “cheap”) boards, which have been painted up real nice for another few hundred dollars. Sad thing is, that sells in more than just the snowboarding market. Ipods? I’m certainly not trying to compare BitchBoards to Apple, although something tells me Alex would love the comparison, and all this free marketing, negative or otherwise, but sometimes tarting up something cheap works.  One look at the website throws up enough evidence of an ego somewhere (all those action shots with the blondes hair being swept this way and that).

BUT, does anyone know the OEM who makes these boards or what makes them special other than a nice graphic.  Anyone other than any of the girls who swamped the review page for the Couture comment on how light they are? Saying a board is light is a subjective thing. A bag of feathers is heavy (a big one).

At the minute it’s all a bit of a mystery who makes them… a close guarded secret that the inside members of the BItchBoards crew will take to the grave!

That post is a classic! Like a battle between good and evil. Which ones good though?
