Hi,
Hope you can advice me in my selection between burton custom flying V 2011 and nidecker megalight camrock 2011. (1.63m)
I am a boarder since 1999, 87kg and like powder and having maximum control in the high speedcarving turns. Current board is burton Custom X with CO2 and Burton Driver boot.
- what is in your opinion the better choise; megalight of custom?
- when riding flying V / camrock how can you compare these boards to the lenght of traditional camber boards. Can I select a shorter size and have similair grip or advise the same lenght?
Thanks! - Leon

I think if you’re coming from the cambered stiffness of the Custom X, you are going to find both profiles are quite different. Firstly I would seriously consider where you really want to change from camber to a rocker hybrid… You could increase the amount of float you get in powder by buying a tapered shape. Having ridden the Ultralight, I can tell you that you don’t need camrock to get float. Secondly, If you are interested in a freeride board with a profile like the Flying V profile I’d probably look at the Never Summer Raptor X or F1 Premier… the Raptor is sooo much fun to carve, but probably works best in medium radius carves, then of course there are Lib Tech boards like the Dark Series or Phoenix Lando. Camrock is great for agility in powder and for longer controled carves, the Megalight is an amazing board, but you also have the option of the Jones Flagship and Rossi Experience which use the same profile, but also include Magnetraction… of course you can get the Megalight with Ultimate Grip which provides a bit of extra grip in ice without changing the feel on groomers.
For extra float and the familiar pop out of carves as camber and easy and lively turn initiation, you should go for the Flying V, RC, C2 banana profile.
For extra float in powder, quick edge to edge response, high speed stability and precision carving in all conditions, but without some of the lively poppyness check out Camrock or Amptek.
For float in powder, quick turn initiation, sticking crazy drops and the sure underfoot feel of camber, go for a tapered camber with an eliptical nose like the Burton Malolo and Arbor Abacus.
I hope that’s some help.

Oh and regarding length, unless you plan to freestyle, I wouldn’t bother sizing down.
